Ducking on all four as a leg blurred over his head, Pluto then rolled to the side to evade the stomp of that same appendage from Quattro.
All in the meantime, his head proceeded Trojan’s words in regards to just what exactly Hexton truly was. “Our girl Hexton’s a Peacock Flounder Mermaid. That means she’s got all of the abilities that her namesake fishy friends have, including their trademark camouflage ability – it’s one of the best in the reef!”
What!? A mermaid? She doesn’t have a tail! That might explain the webbed hands, I suppose.
This was news for him. Never in his life had he even heard of rumors of mermaids being an actual species, at least not from the North Blue. In other words, Scarlette was currently up against an entity that wasn’t even human. It was fascinating to think that the ability to manipulate water might be a natural skill rather than a product from ingesting a Devil Fruit. The power to camouflage meant absolutely nothing if his comrade here could at least transform into literally any of the other forms his power offered.
“Oi! Number Eight! Calm down and focus on your own body. You have the power to transform. If you can do that, you gain access to echolocation, and then there’s nothing you cannot see,” the former owner of that body advised as he continuously leap back in a zigzagging path to keep his distance from Quattro’s advancing steps. Anything that cannot be seen to the eye can be picked up by a bat. There wouldn’t be any color to go along with it, but one could almost visualize the shape, form, and depth of anything in front of oneself.
“I see an opening~,” Quattro moved in on his distracted prey that kept on scampering away like a rabbit. His leg swung a roundabout way, horizontally slamming the girl in the abdomen, causing her to concave the torso and lurch forward. The force was powerful enough for one to expect her to be hurled back off into the distance, but this was all a trap.
Upon impact, curving his body was a conscious choice to lend his arms more distance to cushion the force, but despite that, the wind was still knocked out of his lungs. There was only one goal he had in mind as his arm slithered around the leg like a serpent before clenching the flesh of the man’s calves with the nails dug into the skin, “An opening? Indeed, by talking to my ally, it appeared as if I was distracted and made a careless mistake, right?”
“You… took that hit on purpose?” The man cladded in white fancy clothes could no longer retract his leg as he stood on one remaining foot.
I’ll cut your speed in half! Raising his elbow, Pluto dropped down in attempt to break the man’s knee from applying a strike at the side.
“Tsk!” Hopping off his supporting foot, Quattro spun in midair, twisting his captured leg. The elbow had dropped onto his knee pit where the hinge naturally gave in to cushion to blow that would have otherwise crippled him. His free leg shot out, knocking Pluto away before landing back on the ground.
“Arugh!” His shoulder was struck as he was now tumbling across the surface of the stage.
“That sure was a nasty plan you devised,” the suited bloke spoke with a sweat going down the side of his face by the close call.
I didn’t think he could counter that. Even in that instance, I wasn’t quick enough. If he had been a split second too late, I could have broken that knee of his. I don’t suppose I could pull that trick off a second time on him. I had to take a bit of damage by purposely getting hit, but in the end, I accomplished nothing.
“So that’s what he was trying to do,” Rebecca observed from her seat. The sideways stance from earlier was only to encourage his opponent to kick him in a particular way. Since Quattro was so agile and swift, her brother had probably plotted that little scheme in order to cut the speed down. If anything, that kick-based fighter appeared to be slightly more cautious now that he had witnessed Pluto willingness to take damage in order to pull something like that.
Well then… onto my next plan…
