"Yeah, it's silly isn't it? I mean, if they actually went to sea, they'd just burn down their own boat, right?" A giggle escaped her lips before "I was just thinking I haven't really treated myself in-"
"What." An incredibly loud voice boomed from down the street, belonging to an equally large man - easily standing at eight feet, the man rather unusually wore an officer's coat like an actual coat, with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. His shaved head practically glinted as he made his way down the street, "Happened here." More a statement than a question, the man's tone was decidedly neutral despite his volume as he surveyed the burning building.
As the man approached, Mikaila jumped to her feet, stumbling slightly and swaying as she popped a salute. "Commander! Recruit Akins, reporting!"
The man stopped and stared the girl down for a moment, looking her up and down before finally responding. "And who. Are you?"
"Errrr... Recruit Mikaila Akins, sir. You assigned me to patrol this morning?" She seemed increasingly nervous as the officer's scrutiny continued her eyes shifting away from the large man as she waited for a response.
The response only came after nearly ten seconds of his silent gaze. "And? Report."
"Yessir! While patrolling I came across a mugging when-" The man leaned in suddenly as Mikaila spoke and sniffed the air before wrinkling his nose.
"Are you drunk, recruit?"
"W-what? No, I-"
"Yes. I am certain I sent no one to patrol near here. You are clearly struggling to stand. And the stench on alcohol is unquestionable. Inebriation on duty. Dereliction of duty. This. Is the sort of foolishness. That gives good marines. A bad name." As the officer went on, Mikaila's composure visibly fell apart, unable to get a word in edgewise in the face of her commanding officer.
