Mission #78
Deep in the woods of Houma Island there is a small settlement that is known as Kuroi Town. It's Mayor suffers terribly from boredom. He has begun to look for alternative means of Entertainment. Namely, capturing people and putting them on display to brave gruesome obstacles. Escape from the settlement intact!
The eerie murky waters reflected the clumps of hazy, dark clouds made up the evening sky. Not a shred of sunlight could piece such thick layers of darkness, but at this time of day, such brilliant rays of illumination had likely faded in an unseen sunset by now. What was left in front of him remained the shore of an unfamiliar island. Even now, he could pick up faint sounds of screeches and suspicious rustling of bushes while setting foot on soil. Of all the islands in the Grand Line that he has come across, this was by far the most ominous one by its very image. It didn’t seem like any human beings would inhabit in such a place, but this was what the Log Pose had pointed towards.
A nineteen year old adolescent with his younger sister entered deeper into the woods with much caution. Their black hair blended with the shades of dark green and grey, but each of them distinctly possessed rare violet hued eyes. While Pluto remained composed and alert, the smaller individual beside him kept pressing against vest for protection as she timidly shifted her glance across the scope of the sickly grey colored barks on all of the trees. She wanted to speak but feared that even a whisper would draw in some unwanted attention. At the same time, there was something inside of her that kept reminding her that she was safe as long as her older brother remained present. There were plentiful of monsters that were taken down by him, but there would always be the realistic fear of someone or something being stronger than them. In the Grand Line, there would always be a bigger fish. There was no such thing as being too strong; in such dangerous parts of the seas, one must never stop seeking to ascend one’s own current set of abilities.
Shadows engulfed much of their surroundings, but it wasn’t impossible to make out what was ahead. There weren’t any particular trail for the matter, so the siblings merely meandered around the trees with their destination set towards the horizon that inevitably would be blocked by more towering trunks no matter which angle they viewed it. Rebecca questioned if the plants around them were even alive as they lacked any luster of vibrant colors. Undoubtedly, there was much life lurking about by the spooky noises that sounded from different directions. Much of them were ignored after some time of getting used to. Up in the air, an obscure fog covered some parts of the leaves and branches, further blocking what little light the sky could already offer.
Even though Pluto was generally well accustomed to the darkness, this environment still wouldn’t be a place that he would call home. This was depressing and would make anyone feel vulnerable. His pace gradually slowed before coming to a complete halt as piercing eyes pinpointed some clues.
With a tilt of a head, the younger one gazed up at him in curiosity before tracing the direction of where he looked towards. To their side was –to no one’s surprise- another tree with its bark being blackish grey like all of the others that stood around them. However, this one in particular had markings across it, nearing the roots. Some residue of grinded up wood remained on the soil. Judging by the sharpness of the line that cuts through the bark, it looked as if someone tried to cut the tree down but the deed was left undone. At its flank, a bladed saw was partially hidden in the grass, lying there with no one picking it up. Something dark-looking paint seemed to have splattered across some areas of the grass. Though experience, Pluto quickly identified the mess as dried up blood but he chose not to share this fact to such a young girl.
As they continued on their stride, both of them now knew that someone has been here a while ago. Such a primitive tool as a saw indicated that some intelligent lifeform was once here; perhaps it belonged to a human or perhaps not. What might be most troubling would have to be the blood splattered back there. From the given evidences, it would appear that someone tried to cut down the tree but was then attacked by threats that remained anonymous to them for the time being. The Grand Line was still full of mysteries.
