Captain Mask, dashing towards the perceived epicenter of the noise couldn't help but drift back to a moment of his childhood that seemed oddly relevant to him.
Shotaro was only 8 years old, and still lived with his guardian. The enigmatic Dr. Keiji. Keiji was a short, gray haired man with a big bushy beard. He always wore the same stark white lab coat, but the clothing underneath would never be the same two days in a row. He taught Shotaro everything he needed to know about the world, and about people. He taught Shotaro many things, but the one lesson that always stood out in the mind of the hero to be was the very moment that caused Shotaro to take up the title of Captain Mask.
It was an average summer day. Shotaro, ever willing to assist his adoptive father, was testing out a device that would suck in air and then release it in intense bursts. Such technology could be used to allow ships to travel when the sea's were without wind. If anything, it would earn them enough cash to survive for the next few months. Not only was Keiji running short on ideas, but he was also running short on materials. This device would need to be a break out hit, didn't matter if it was taken by pirates, marines, whoever. All Keiji cared about was making money to support Shotaro. The device, of which he named the "Stable Wind" would essentially push the sails via artificially created winds.
As Shotaro continued to test the device, he continued to notice a trend. Every time that the device reached capacity in terms of how much air it could hold at a time, it would take around 10 minutes to recover, something that Keiji didn't tell Shotaro when he handed the device to him. Couldn't this possibly anger people? These thoughts loomed in Shotaro's head as he didn't even realize that the device was filling to the brink with air, and he was holding the repelling end downwards.
Little Shotaro, only 8 years old, was suddenly blasted high into the sky of the island they were currently living on. The child, still not aware of what exactly just happened, did not look down, until his fear and curiosity got the better of him. He was extremely high up now, the boat that he lived on was like a mouse at this height. Little Shotaro could feel his eyes starting to water as he let out a scream for help. It seemed as though Keiji was already outside however. Shotaro thought hard, and remembered that the device made a pretty big booming sound, do to all that compressed air hitting the rocky shore near the docks. Dr. Keiji watching in awe and torment as his son was so incredibly high in the air, and yet he could do nothing. He had no way to save his child. The scientist scrambled around, breathing heavily, trying to think of a way to keep his son from falling to his untimely death. Even though there was nothing he could do, he did not give up. As the boy grew closer and closer to the ground, so did Keiji's tears. However, just as the scientist was about to give in, he heard a loud screeching noise, and saw something, a person, fly by and catch Shotaro as he was falling. The man seemed to have wings...and fire erupting from his back. The scientist's mouth flew open as the man who saved his son placed the boy down on the ground. Little Shotaro's tears had vanished, and had been replaced with an immaculate glimmer. The young boy was inspired. This man had gone out of his way to save someone he didn't even know. This man, now waving goodbye, walked off back to town. Little Shotaro, clutching the Stable Wind in his hands, ran up to the man and grabbed onto his leg. The young boy, only 8 years old, spoke to this man with the determination and sternness of an adult. "Who are you." The child spoke, his words unwavering and clear. The man placed his hand on the boy's head, and the mask that covered his face split apart. "I am Susanoo 7" The man's face was very metallic, almost entirely so. His eyes shone with a bright yellow hue. This man was, in fact, about 99% cyborg. The only part of him that was still human was, strangely enough, his nose. Susanoo 7 turned around again, but this time walked towards the sea. He extended his artificial wing pack, and soared off into the sky. This man, this hero, saved Shotaro so instinctively. Shotaro wanted to be just like him. A super hero.
What a strange story. Captain Mask couldn't exactly remember why he felt that was so important, but it just...was. It was what gave life to his cause, his passion. Shotaro would have never evolved into Captain Mask if not for the quick thinking and heroism of that man. Susanoo 7. However, things seemed to be looking up now. He was a hero now, he had a partner to help him weather any storm. The Relieved Captain Mask couldn't help but feel like this situation, this enemy they were tracking. No matter what, would turn out okay. After all, a heroes greatest power does not come from Devil Fruits or fancy costumes. "A heroes greatest strength is their determination...as long as you keep picking yourself up, and never give in, no matter how bleak and helpless it seems, you'll come out on top. If a hero isn't the one at the top, then who's going to help everyone else up?" The Captain couldn't help but talk aloud, completely unaware that the villain he was looking for. 'Last Light' Alexius, was standing all but a few feet from where he was currently standing, weapon in hand.
The Oblivious Captain Mask turned his head ever so slightly. His heroic eyes widened behind his orange visor. He could still clearly see the blood washing over Alexius' body. If not for the cold climate of this island, he would probably reek right now. Then again the not so common hero in red hasn't bathed in quite some time as well.
"I assume that you're...'Last Light' Alexius." Captain Mask's words echoed out into the bark and trunk maze around him. "If so, wonderful, I've been looking for you all day." Captain Mask exaggerated a bit to make himself seem more diligent. He stood tall, still far away from the wanted man. The hero extended a finger towards Alexius.
"A Divine Wind."
"An Ambassador From Hell"
"The Man Of Many Faces..."
"...But One True Heart!"
"I am...Captain Mask!"
