(Wow! I am really impressed. XD Thanks for that Shichi! Keeping shooting for 200 words Rya! Maybe we could throw in some action so that there's more to write about? If not, I'll just make some sort of silly fight break out. )
Throughout her life there had been no time for rest or contemplation about far way places and dreams. Mai had learned at a very early age that she had to be strong and to work hard for the necessary things in life. Since her parents deaths she had also learned how to become tough and self-reliant. Working was what she had to do to survive and so that had been what she had done.
Mai had never really taken the time to yearn for someone that could help her out. She hadn't looked for a magic cure for her position in life as a member of the laity. Rather, she had sucked it up and pressed onward living each day as a daily scheduled routine, all designed just to keep moving forward. Confidence was what she had gained during those years but only in her cooking skills. Really, that was what she was the best at. What she wanted was always on the back burner. That was, until now. Still, hearing Toma-san speak of his dreams captured a spark of imagination inside of her that she hadn't even known had been there.
The beauties and marvels of the world, huh? Mai stopped a moment, attempting to picture what the rest of the world looked like and drawing a blank. Gecko island was a small place and Syrup Village even smaller. Imagination not being one of her strong suits didn't help the matter of trying to picture what it could look like either. What about the Grand Line? The thought was too enormous for her to even comprehend really. Even the idea of entering into the Grand Line had been one that she had never even considered.
Pinkish purple hair fell into her face and Mai brushed it absently aside with the back of her hand gently behind her ear. Retrieving the last few bags from the boat, she returned just in time to see Toma heading directly for her, his voice excited again. Raising an eyebrow, she was a bit astonished and didn't even know how to respond as she was told that she shouldn't carry the bags by herself. Giving him an odd look, Mai seemed to not even really be sure that she had understood the words correctly. Not do something? There had never been a time in her life she had taken the easy way out. Letting him take care of it? Mai was almost took that offensively.
As she listened to Toma as he continued to speak, comparing her to delicate things in life, Mai felt herself getting more and more confused. Beautiful? Pampered? Those were all new concepts to her. She made a move to get the bags herself but before she could get to them in time, Toma had already snatched all five of them up from the ground in a fluid motion, making it look like nothing at all. "I think that you have the wrong girl," Mai began as she blinked and looked at him, her expression a bit tight. Her lips were pierced and one of her eyes almost seemed to twitch a little.
Toma-san actually bowed toward her and offered up his name in a formal introduction. He moved as though the bags were nothing more than air, still using one hand to gesture openly as he spoke. "Well, Tomaru-san, you really don't need to get all of those," Mai said, her voice showing portraying some of her edginess on the subject. When she heard Yukiko call him a 'Ladies Man' she really didn't know what to think.
"Well, I don't care if you are owned by Ladies or not, at least give me some of them. I can help," Mai's competitive side was shining through her outward cheerfulness alright. Putting out her arm, she waited with her lips pierced together still and a stiff look to her body for him to fork over at least some of the bags. She would settle for at least two of them. While she was making life difficult for Tomaru, the cook was only vaguely aware that Yukiko slipped away for a bit. Her focus was on other things and she was very wound up about them.
