”Excuse me, have you seen this man recently? … No? … Are you certain? Well, okay then, thank you.”
The girl sighed heavily after exiting an inn and closing the door behind her. She once again stepped into the pouring rain and ran down the street to keep searching. She figured she had to check all the inns and then go down the route of destruction to perhaps find a witness. She and Sam had split up. They had given word to some other marines and gotten them to help on their un-sanctioned mission to search for the captain of the sticky pirates. Not in that one as well, huh? It really seemed like the people of that inn wanted to help, thou. I guess this wasn’t going to be as simple. I should probably focus more on the witnesses. Perhaps some civilians, who were not taken, could point me in the right direction. Tsubaki thought while running down the puddled streets, looking around for anything or anyone who could tell her something.
She had changed shirts. There was no point running around with a ripped one. She wouldn’t be able to fight in it and the thing would call for too much unwanted attention. If she was searching for information, she needed to be taken more seriously than that. She was also carrying a small shoulder-bag now, where she held a mini den-den mushi and a few copies of a wanted poster. They had found out the name of the sticky pirates’ captain. It was Jeremy B. Black – also called the Professor. Apparently his pride and joy was making traps and he appreciated cruelty. There were a few stories they told her as she came asking. None of them would make suitable tales to tell back to others in any way. Also, he had a bounty of twenty three million. She hadn’t really gone after bounties before but she knew there was a good reason they gave them in the first place. This guy had probably evaded the marines at some point. Or, he had done worse than avoided getting captured. She did feel a bit uneasy about this. That is also the reason she insisted they all take a den-den with them. That way, they could communicate with each other and call for backup, in case one of them actually found the “Professor”… To be honest, the name fit his description a little. Maybe it just seemed that way because the man wore glasses. He seemed quite skinny, his cheeks a bit sunken in, a tired look on his face, oval frame glasses on his nose and slicked back, blonde hair. However, there was a bad vibe about his appearance. To Tsubaki the word “creepy” was first that came to mind.
Still keeping a rather quick pace and telling herself that she’ll get used to the burning sensation in her throat and the heaviness that lingered in her lungs, the girl kept searching. Yet, thus far she had not noticed anyone left on the streets. No one until she spotted a dark silhouette further down the street. It seemed male and had just exited something that looked like a teahouse – or what was left of a teahouse. Right, so the pirates had probably been there. That means he could’ve seen something! She figured and picked up her pace. The girl felt a bigger tug on her lungs but that didn’t even matter now. This person was hope. What if he really saw something? He seemed to be about her age, from what she could tell. Good, they might be able to communicate better because of that.
”Excuse me!” she called out, while still a bit away. The dark-haired boy had turned with her back, facing the wall of the already wrecked place. He probably hadn’t heard her. Right. The girl hurried to close the distance; she didn’t want to lose a possible witness.
”Um, excuse me.” She said again politely, now only a few feet from the dark-haired boy. Somehow… his silhouette seemed familiar. Oh and look, he was about her height as well.
Slightly gripping the wanted poster she had pulled out from her back, the girl took a breath and spoke again: ”Have you seen this man? Jeremy B. Black. He is the captain of the sticky pirates who are currently wreaking havoc on this island.” she explained, in case the boy had thus been uninterested in talking to her. However, there was a chance the young adult in front of her was one of the pirates. What would she do then?
Standing there, her arm extended and showing the wanted poster to the figure in front of her, she could only hope he’d comply. It was still raining. She could feel trails of water forming under her shirt on her back and most of the clothing along with her hair sticking to her more, thus also getting heavier. She raised her other hand to drive through her now wet brown hair, thus pushing them away from her face. She would try to at least converse with this possible witness. And if he waited to respond too long, so long that the wanted poster were to start deforming, she had taken multiple copies just for that reason… she couldn’t think of anything else in a hurry.
