Finally after almost a month at sea the Shining Pirates reached land. Brandon the little penguin had guided the crew to Shivre Mountain with his innate navigation skills, not that Leonard didn't have some idea of their heading, but it seemed he wouldn't have to worry about that in future as the little guy did a bang up job. In the early hours of daylight the ship docked next to a very small shipyard, it was the perfect place to weigh anchor as Hikaru, the crew shipwright had planned to modify the ship to better suit it's new owners, luckily for the newly formed pirate crew this particular island had very little in the way of a Marine presence making the docking of a ship flying a jolly roger not that big a deal for the shipyard owner. The first couple of hours of that morning were dedicated to deciding what everyone would do while the ship was being outfitted, Leonard and Hiroto, the crew's doctor, would go up to the main city of the island, Shivre City, to get some supplies, Hikaru would work on the ship with the help of Kusatta and Brandon, whatever help the penguin would be; but the shipwright requested Brandon to stay to "model for something". Not having any reason to refuse the request Leonard left the water fowl in the hands of Hikaru and Kusatta.
Stepping off the ship, the captain wore a more appropriate outfit for one of the colder island of the North Blue, heavy dark grey woolen trousers, black boots, a white turtleneck sweater and a heavy black winter jacket with a fur lined hood. Sadly not having found a pair of glove amongst all the stuff that was found on the ship, Leonard resorted to putting his hands in the coat's pockets after having strapped his nodachi to his back. Shivre was really a bleak place, one big protuberant chunk of rock on the northern seas with very little on it. A few farms dotted the foot of the mountain but that was about it, the rest was just jagged rocks, a single mountain trail and a couple goats. higher up on the mountain the outline of a town could be seen, but what came as a surprise to the young swordsman was that there did not seem to snow on the mountain other than on the peak. A curious thing for such a cold place he thought, however the owner of the small shipyard explained the mountain was full of hot springs thus keeping the surface of the rock too warm for snow to remain. Perhaps the crew will enjoy a nice hot bath while they were here, Leo thought for a moment before heading off.
"Alright. We're off to the city. Take care of the ship guys." Were the parting words of the captain to the rest of the crew as him and Hiroto left for the city. It was cold on Shivre, really cold; the lowest parts of the island had the warmest air but could hardly be called "warm", perhaps not as cold would be a more fitting description, the only things growing down there were grass and a few root vegetables. In fact despite the sea air not being as cold as the one up the mountain the lack of hot water veins running through the lower part of Shivre might actually mean it is colder overall. This odd island did intrigue Leonard quite a bit, but he would just have to think about it on the way up the mountain.
Luckily for the captain and doctor, they would not have to trek all the way up the mountain trail. A cart made it's way up there daily to bring in good from the farm and occasional merchant ship. So as long as the two did not mind sitting besides sacks of turnips, they would at least not have to exhaust themselves. The swordsman did feel like his various injuries from the last battle had healed, but it was quite obvious a certain medically inclined crew member still felt he should be taking it easy, perhaps one of the reason Hiroto had decided to come along to the city was also to make sure Leonard did not hurt himself again. Not that he planned to get hurt, but even if he did she would hardly be capable of stopping him. So the two got in, facing one another, Leo on the left side of the cart, back to the edge of the road for the first part of the ascent, while Hiroto would be back to the rock wall. Of course due to the nature of the Z shape of the mountain trail their position relative to the mountain would change a few times throughout their way up, but the captain wanted to be able to look straight onto the massive spire of rock for little longer, by the time he would be facing the ocean again he'll have probably stopped caring about the mountain. It was, after all, a long way up.
As the horse drawn cart began it's long journey to Shivre City, the pirate captain began to get lost in his thoughts, as he often did, but before long the cart driver began to speak. "It's nice to have some strong looking people like you to come up with me. There has been a lot of bandit attacks recently... well more than the usual lot. But maybe if they see you guys they'll at least think twice before trying anything." The older man, who wore plain grey woolen clothes and a big knitted hat over his ears, stopped talking for a moment to guide his horse towards the center of the path as the animal was starting to get too close to the edge of the trail to the driver's liking. Having set horse back on a more appropriate course the cart driver resumed his talking. "You do know how to use those weapons right? They're not just for show?" He asked inquisitively. The question made Leonard smile a little. Were they strong? That's something worthy of a heated philosophical debate. What is strength and all that, but that was hardly what the old man was asking so the pirate answered him. "Yeah... we're pretty strong." He said looking at the top of the mountain, but lowering his gaze back to Hiroto he added "Aren't we?" It was pretty much a rhetorical question but curious to see the lady doctor's reaction, Leo asked anyway.
