“OI! What the hell's going on here?!”
The Okama twins halted their advance in an instant, slamming into the ground upon hearing the explosive exclamation. Naughts and Crossed picked up their make-up-smeared faces, eyes bulging from their sockets upon examining the culprit of the question. Gavin shared interest in the new arrival as well, tilting his shaggy head toward the forest above the beach and blinking curiously.
“LEONA-SAMA!”
“LEONA-SAMA!”
The battered Okama quickly gathered their composure, scrambling to their feet and managing some semblance of a joint bow. The good looks of the woman named 'Leona' betrayed the gruff and intimidating matter in which she spoke. She stood at the front of several Okama gradually emerging from the forest, pale-skinned and dark-haired with a rather revealing and loose-fitting dress wrapped around a curvaceous frame. A red eye patch covered her left eye, the strap visibly coiling down her neck, chest, and across her left leg. One of her red heels tapped the ground impatiently, a lit cigarette pressed between thin lips covered with bright red lipstick. Leona stood in stark contrast with the rest of her Okama brethen. She appeared to be the real thing – an actual woman.
“It's like another Winry, man...” The musician sleepily observed, commenting on Leona possessing the demeanor of a roughneck sailor despite the elegance conveyed by her womanly features.
“Should have known you two morons were involved in this somehow,” The frightening female looked to Naughts and Crossed with a vein pulsing in her forehead, hands pressed on her hips in frustration. A single snake-like eye flashed to Nolan, but her interest was more in his newly-acquired crustacean companion than the noisy navigator. “Ugh... And Alejandro. Of course.” The crimson iris flashed to the pack of party animals next, all of which whimpers beneath the dagger-like gaze.
“I didn't expect to have an East Blue celebrity on my island,” The pale beauty said sarcastically, directing her attention toward Gavin. The dopey drifter was clueless as always. Instead of offering a response, he carefully looked one way and then the other. Finally, Gavin shielded his mouth with one hand and turned to Naughts and Crosses
“Is that babe talking to me, man?” the wanderer whispered loudly, any attempt at making the inquiry subtle made impossible.
“SHE'S LOOKING RIGHT AT YOU!”
“SHE'S LOOKING RIGHT AT YOU!”
Leona let out an annoyed sigh with an exhale of smoke after the Okama sisters offered their fanged responses, equally disappointed in both parties.
“The Windward Wanderers were hard to ignore – they caused a lot of trouble in the East,” Leona continued, realizing the oblivious entertainer obviously needed clarification. “I was wondering why they were short a member in that picture, but when I heard news that a guitarist and two other kids took down the Red Tides in Resinbar, it wasn't hard to figure out it was you.”
Leona made an impressive leap to the beach, clearing the treacherous slope that had previously demolished Okama, musician, and navigator alike. She removed the spikes of her stilettos from the sand, shaking the grains off with a couple swift flicks. The other Okama of the eyesore island soon followed, slowly massing behind her.
“So what's the deal now, Gavin D'Arras? Got tired of following the mutt and decided to be the captain of your own crew now?” There was a threatening nature which laced the woman's words, punctuated by another puff of smoke. The intimidation was entirely lost on Gavin, of course.
“Huh? Captain, man?” The songsmith tilted his head, raising a quizzical eyebrow after hearing the word. Leona merely placed a hand on her head, apparently possessing less patience than Naughts and Crosses.
“Whatever. Either way, you've been making a mess here too. Iva-sama charged me with protecting the island in his absence and I don't intend to fail a request from the Queen.” Leona flicked the ash from the cigarette before returning its place between her lips. “I prefer a quiet island, and you three are making too much god damn noise.” The full fighting force of Momoiro Island was now assembled behind Leona. Despite appearances, they radiated the aura of competent soldiers.
“Those two may be idiots...” The woman in the red dress motioned toward Naughts and Crosses. The angry spark in her serpentine eye was not born of their ridiculous antics, but of the bruised and battered state they were in. “But they're my people. I won't allow you to hurt them!”
“Leeeooonnnaaa-saaaammmmaaaaa~”
“Leeeooonnnaaa-saaaammmmaaaaa~”
Tears streamed down the Okama twins' faces as they praised their savior, sputtering and crying out loudly. Veins gradually popped from Leona's forehead, closing her eye and grinding her teeth together as she endured Naughts and Crosses' dramatic display.
“SHUT UP?!” the buxom beauty finally snapped, instantly silencing the duo's wails. They simply gave a series of rapid nods in response. “Not sure why you came to Momoiro, but I'm gonna have to crush you and your little crew right here.” The energy permeating from Leona grew exponentially more threatening upon uttering the sentence, a sound like a chorus of gunshots ringing out as she cracked her knuckles.
“Crew, man...?” Gavin gave Leona another clueless look, obviously not grasping the concept the woman with the eye patch was futilely attempting to hammer into his skull. Despite the intimidating odds facing the traveling trio, the six string slinger let out an enormous yawn. “Nah man. I don't really feel like fighting a girl.”
The entirety of the Okama fighting force looked on, jaws dropped in shock as Leona's threat was waved off effortlessly.
“Hey, Winry?” Gavin's attention shifted seamlessly to his panda-eyed companion, oblivious to the storm brewing in front of him. “Did you say you saw the boat, m–”
“Don't underestimate me, kid.”
Leona was suddenly in front of the musical knight, her red dress flickering into view with speed very few of the spectators could trace. A single long leg was extended, lashing forward to deliver a skull-crushing kick across Gavin's hazy head. However, the shaggy strummer surprised everyone as he arched his neck to avoid the bullet-speed strike. Gavin looked to have pulled off the impressive feat of avoiding the kick, until his spacey nature ruined any sort of combat credibility.
While his reaction time was able to match Leona's superhuman speed, Gavin misjudged the distance of the strike and forgot to actually move.
“EEEEEEEEEEHHHH?!”
“EEEEEEEEEEHHHH?!”
The entirety of the island joined in with the Okama twins' baffled exclamations, even the Okamanimals, as the blow landed square on Gavin's chin and rocketed him into a beach-front building. The wooden structure ruptured and collapsed loudly as Leona gracefully landed on the neon beach. Naughts and Crosses were the first to get a hold of themselves, quick to not downplay Leona's momentous kick.
“Ha! How could you be so stupid, Gav-kun?” Crosses grinned and spoke proudly, as though he was the one who landed the kick.
“You underestimated Leona-sama because she is a 'girl', but we already told you gender was irrelevant here in the Kamabakka Queendom!” Naughts spoke as proudly as his twin, sharing the same wide grin.
They turned toward Winry and Nolan, writing Gavin off as a dead man buried in a grave of wooden debris at this point.
“Through the power of our great queen and the Horu-Horu no Mi...”
“... Leona-sama has crossed the barrier between male and female countless times!”
There was a growing excitement between the two Okamas made clear by the growing flamboyance of their mannerisms. It was obvious Naughts and Crosses placed a great deal of trust in Leona's strength.
“Leona-sama has ultimately transcended the boundaries of genders and become a Newkama!”
“The power which your captain just experienced first hand!”
The excitement between the twins nearly ready to burst as they continued to gush about the magnificence of the woman in red.
“Second only to Emporio Ivankov-sama...”
“... Momoiro Island's stand-in grandmaster of Newkama Kempo...”
Naughts and Crosses were on either side of Leona in a flash, mirroring dramatic poses with arms extended to enhance the gravity of the announcement.“LEONA THE SCORPION-SAMA!”
“LEONA THE SCORPION-SAMA!”
The Okama army gave a resounding roar of approval as their beloved leader was introduced, raucous cheers of both human and animal origin spreading across the beach like wildfire... Wildfire that could burn on wet sand, apparently.“SHUT UP?!”
The scorpion as she was called took Naughts and Crosses by the hair and pounded their skulls together, silencing their ridiculous theatrics and the chants of Momoiro's inhabitants in one single action. Letting out another smoke-laced sigh, Leona finally turned to Winry and Nolan and thumbed toward the wreckage where Gavin rested.
“Is that idiot really your captain?” she asked with a hint of surprise, a single sweat drop rolling down the side of her fair face.
