Mariko only offered a somewhat nervous brief grin in response to his answer and decided to stay silent and careful for the time being, only nodding quietly at his suggestion to rest in the village. Rest sounded like a good idea, though she was not quite looking forward to relaxing and sleeping with this man close to her. But she would have to make it work, somehow. She was getting tired - her short and small frame made it harder and harder to move in the increasing depth of the soft snow, not to mention the backpack full of tools she was carrying.
As Monroe extended his hand out to help her, a bunch of memories crept back into her mind. It reminded her of a boy, her childhood friend and crush, how he helped her up when she would fall. It reminded her of the hand he offered that one time when, in her eyes, he had betrayed her feelings. It made her angry, but she composed herself and only offered a smile that appeared genuinely happy as she grabbed the helping hand gently.
She decided to remain silent for the rest of the way and direct her energy into getting through the snow. There would be time to talk when needed. If needed. Some things were better not forced and hurried, after all.
As the sun was slowly starting to set, Mariko's stomach broke the silence with a softly audible rumble and she giggled childishly at it, with her cheeks light red from the cold. A small settlement could finally be seen in the distant dusk of early evening coming down and Mari was, in a way, quite glad that there would be other people around. Of course, that also meant there would be food, a place to rest ... and maybe even some coin to be made. Maybe even a chance to get closer to Monroe.
As they neared the first houses, the girl's face lit up in a smile while she waved happily in greeting at the people who spotted them. Then, with a big childish smile on her lips she tugged at Monroe's sleeve, pointing towards a building that, by the looks of it, had to be an inn or maybe a restaurant, almost screaming with a cheerful voice.
"There! Let's eat! Please? Mari is soo hungry!"
