"Ah, nevermind, nevermind" he remarked, shaking his head. It mattered little. Maybe he really was reading into things too much. Dammit, he needed to stop thinking like a Marine all the time. Sophia was Sophia, after all - she wasn't going to change drastically overnight, or rather, over a minute. Simply allowing her to continue holding him, not really caring much since he had grown so used to it, he took another drag of his cigarette, listening as she proceeded to remark how she didn't remember whether or not she was alright earlier or not. Just like her, he thought to himself. However, Sophia then seemed to suddenly change as she tightened her grip on him slightly, beginning to speak again as she proceeded to ask him a somewhat... Unusual question. A question he didn't think he'd hear her ask him at all.
Did he want her to grow up? The question made him freeze for a moment. It came out of nowhere and was so unexpected that he didn't quite know what to say at first. Yes? No? Maybe? Moreover, why did she ask him? He blinked, staring back down at her, wondering what made her ask. But he knew he was just stalling for time. He sighed, eventually parting his lips to say something. "We all grow up sometime" he started speaking, taking the cigarette out from between his lips for a moment. "Whether it's slowly or quickly, people inevitably grow up. And I don't mean we grow taller, begin to age or grow wrinkles. As we experience this world, I guess we just slowly gain a little more understanding and begin to find our place in it. It's not just something you can escape from" he answered her back, looking down to stare into her eyes.
"Sophia... I don't mind if you grow up now or in a few years, but in the end, I guess you'll have to eventually. Not because I want it or because you want it, but because people will always continue to change throughout their lives. To be honest, I guess a part of me is curious to know. To see what you'll be like when that time comes" he finished, though in his thoughts he continued. 'Sophia... I don't mind when you do, all I hope is that you don't drift away when that time comes' he thought to himself. Sighing, he put his cigarette back in his mouth, looking off in another direction for a moment as he recollected himself, pondering on whether or not he'd done her any good when saying that.
