Brie found the mention of glass bottles rather odd as they discussed her firearms. Maybe more normal people practiced on them, but as soon as she could hold one her targets were more resembling what she’d actually be using the guns for. It made little sense to her to practice on something like bottles, it's not like those would attack you during a hunt. Brie had come to terms with the fact her upbringing was unorthodox to say the least and simply nodded at Mimi’s description.
Mimi did at least share some commonality in upbringing though. Brie couldn’t help but agree that this island held its fair share of interesting sights and marvels. It was so unlike the small island Brie had been raised and trained on, but there was a distinct comfort to it at the same time. Brie found herself able to quickly adjust to the city, and could easily see the potential to secure bounties and try out all the fun trinkets the local blacksmiths were making. Those thoughts were overshadowed as Mimi responded to the clarification Brie offered.
It’s not unsurprising to want to be a pirate these days, but Brie did choke on her drink as Mimi loudly declared her intentions. Mimi seemed so naive and friendly, and the furthest thing Brie would mark down as a pirate. She also knew what it was like to be underestimated, so even though the news was shocking, it didn’t stay that way. Brie did realize in hindsight that Mimi had accidentally given that man a broken nose earlier, and that was purely from swinging her arm back almost nonchalantly. Clearly Mimi was stronger than she appeared, but that did little to assuage Brie’s worries.
“A…a pirate captain?” Brie asked, hoping to sound genuinely curious, but the slight catch in her words showed some apprehension. Brie was incredibly grateful to the young woman sitting across from her, and she recognized now that that young woman may be someone she is hired to hunt eventually. Beyond that, Brie did feel some sense of connection with Mimi even though their time together thus far had been short.
“We just met, I’m not going to act like I know what’s best for you…” Brie said, returning to her somewhat cold tone as she spoke. “Being a pirate is dangerous as I’m sure you know. I’m a bounty hunter by trade, and there’s the real chance that if we cross paths again…” Brie had to stifle her emotions as she spoke. Fear and anxiety flaring up at the possibility she had concocted in her mind. “It could be as adversaries. I’d rather avoid that.”
Brie, having said her peace on the topic, looked to quickly move on. It wasn’t meant as a threat, but instead as a plea to not get into that sort of trouble. Whether it sounded threatening was entirely lost on Brie and she could only hope Mimi understood. Hoping to clear the air Brie placed her cup down and raised an eyebrow.
“That being said, you definitely shouldn’t blurt that out to people you just met. I could have been a marine for all you know.”
