Seeing Beast’s reaction, Danielle couldn’t help laughing and she ruffled the malamute’s ears and fur. “You are such a beauty,” she whispered as she started to walk with the large animal by her side, holding onto Beast for support. “But don’t chase the ducks into the lake… I don’t think the Professor will be very happy about your coat getting all dirty.”
It wouldn’t take them very long to reach the park, and once they did, Danielle sat down on the concrete ring at the rim of the fountain with her injured leg outstretched, the water splashing behind her but not reaching her. It was more of a pond with a little spout than a proper fountain, but it was nice enough, and there were some colourful koi swimming about in the murky water.
“Okay, here we are…” Danielle sighed. This entire ordeal was a lot more exhausting than she thought it would be. The walk was tiring and just the thought of having to go through this was mentally draining, but she was glad to have friends by her side, as odd as they were. As if already missing Beast, her hand buried itself into the big dog’s fur once more. “Shouldn’t be long until Rosalina is brought here. Thank you for staying by my side, Beast.”
Her other hand rested on the chest that she placed down on the concrete beside her on the other side. Danielle tried to protect it, her fingers protectively over its lid. The only regret that she had was failing to get the thing opened, but it seemed to be jammed. Perhaps in all the chaos upon boarding the ship and discovering her most recent condition, she had accidentally struck the box or dropped it an awkward angle. Surely, it was purely decorative and not meant for storage, so there couldn't be very much inside it, if anything at all. Had there been anything of a questionable nature, Danielle was confident Beast would have sniffed it out long ago.
The guards at the gate watched Gabriel as he spoke, making no attempts to introduce themselves or interrupt his own introduction. However, as he paused, they picked up on his awkwardness and glanced at each other. It was very clear that something was wrong, though they couldn’t put their finger on what, exactly.
“Meetings between ‘Danny Sky’ and miss Rosalina have been prohibited until the appropriate funds are acquired. Have they been acquired?” One of the two armoured guards spoke in a monotone voice. The other, however, seemed to be more human.
“Hold up, prohibited on this premises, the boss- er… Sir Olivier Lawrence Fernandez Dior didn’t say anything about meeting elsewhere.” He explained in a younger voice.
“It was made very clear-”
“Let the princess decide.” He cut in, impatiently and sarcastically, and turned to face the castle spire. Taking a handheld trumpet from his waist, he blew a melody of three rising notes to summon Rosalina, a recognised tune with clear meaning. The bridge was promptly lowered.
“What are you doing?” The guard who spoke first hissed at his coworker, frustrated. “We’re going to get in trouble for this.”
“They’re going to Duck Lake, how much danger could fall upon her there? Besides, I will just accompany her myself to make sure that none does.” Turning back to the Professor again, he smiled apologetically after their little argument. “Excuse us, Professor Moon… Miss Rosalina will be down here shortly. As you may have heard, wherever she goes, I will be accompanying her. I’m sure you understand.”
Soon, a woman with gorgeous red locks emerged through the castle door and over the bridge. She wore ribbons in her hair that had the most unruly yet graceful curls to frame her freckled face, though the self-important smile between her cheeks threatened to shatter the image of an innocent and kind-hearted girl. Her eyes reflected emerald green as they fell on the guards, then came to rest on Gabriel.
“Thank you, officers. Why have you summoned me to the gate?” She asked in a sweet voice, her gaze dancing all over the well-dressed Professor’s body with curiosity. Her own hands, meanwhile, gently hid behind her own body, the fluffy skirt of her dress making that very easy as her outfit was like something out of a fairytale that swayed with her body from side to side like a picture-perfect doll.
