Marlus #8
Of course she would… A small, but contained smile found itself forming upon Mister Caine’s lips as his ears couldn’t help but catch carefree curiosity from his companion. He didn’t turn his head at all, nor voice any opposition to her decision, for any attempt as such by this point would sooner fall on deaf ears. At least, that was the impression he got—Mimi seemed very much the type to repay any debt she felt herself owing. If only all folks truly took that mentality to heart, and that others didn’t abuse the generosity of those that did.“There you go, dearie,” the old woman smiled:
“And thank you very much! You’re too kind~!”“I hope you like carrot cake~?”
“I don’t think I can really refuse at this point,” Marlus mused, turning to face Miss Monroe and taking note of her poise and posture as she set down plates and drinks. A steaming black mug reflected a morbid shadow of a man plagued by senses of betrayal, uncertainty, and regret, but so too did it illuminate the brightness of a young and cheery girl who seemed to be free of worries. “You really didn’t have to, but thank you,” he said, shifting the coffee into a more favourable position—an effort barely required—but otherwise leaving it to cool for a moment.
“I take it you’ve worked as a waitress?” The question he allowed to float for a moment, taking the tiny silver cake fork that his slice had been served with and cleanly cutting a small mouthful of morsel from the meal. It was good. Moist, sufficiently sweet but not overpoweringly so; the kind of natural sugary tinge bestowed unto the batter by raisin, plus the soft tang of cinnamon. “Most people can’t walk like that with a tray in hand, let alone serve everything from it without spilling something,” the violet-haired vigilante explained, clueing the woman into his observations, and only realising too little too late that it would in turn open the door to questions of her own.
Why do I always let my guard down around people like this…? A question posed to his own subconscious mind was answered only with expectant silence, the void filled by little more than mocking quiet as his own brain scratched at intangible answers that he should have known by now. All the same, the bowman knew well the various motions of many a commonly seen profession, so it wasn’t out of the realm of expectation that he would have been able to figure Miss Monroe out. Still, this type of innocence and joviality? It was pleasant, honest, and at risk…{Post Synposis:—}
Getting used to Mimi’s mannerisms, Marlus reveals a quick analysis of her ability as he thanks her for her generosity and questions his own state of mind.
