Cornelius nodded as Clara asked where he performed. "Oh, yes," he said, offering her a friendly smile. "There's a theatre just a few blocks to the East of here! It's honestly a rather lovely place... not a lot of seating, but the patrons pay handsomely for their show, so the pay is extremely good!" He winked at her. "Really, I'm a lucky man, getting to play for such crowds. I'm not sure I'd be able to live comfortably otherwise."
He nodded when she asked if he was all alone. "Currently, I live by myself, yes. I spend some time with my manager and other performers, but we rarely discuss matters outside of business. There's this one man, a bassoonist, who I thought I was establishing something of a rapport with, but, well..." Said man had been picked up by another agent. Cornelius hadn't seen him since. "...I suppose it wasn't meant to be."
The conversation was interrupted by the pirates, the leader of which guffawed at Clara's question. "Naw, this ain't all of us, but the rest are outside making sure no marines get it in their 'eads to spoil our fun!"
Cornelius looked out the window; sure enough, a crew of what must have been dozens of pirates were standing around outside, guarding the door. It seemed they didn't want anybody getting in... or out.
"I swear, them marines..." Tommy spoke now, his voice high-pitched with a slight whistle to it thanks to a pair of rather glorious buck teeth. "Always spoilin' our fun! No sense o' proper decorum, right cap'n?"
Barret laughed again. "Too right, Tommy! Awright hot stuff, go tell the man in the back to start cookin' every animal 'e's got!" He gave Clara a smack to send her on her way, causing Cornelius to bolt up from his seat with an agitated look on his face.
