Had Ridley given her any chance to, the girl was in fact about to argue – she didn’t want to be poked with a needle, whether it would be for her own good or not. With a huff and a pout, followed by a short sulk, she stomped her foot lightly. "But- " Then he was already down on seventeen, sixteen – she was wasting time!
In a panic, she turned and frantically looked around for a place to hide, but where could she? Where wouldn’t be obvious? There were plenty of trees, looking behind the correct one could be difficult, but Mr Ridley was probably too clever and would find her in an instant if she just stood behind a tree trunk. Up in a tree? That would be better, but she wasn’t sure she had the energy for the climb…
The shuffling sounds of her feet would shift into gentle pitter-patters, twigs snapping and dried leaves crunching as she she finally made her way away from the seeker when he was already on the number twelve.
It didn’t take her very long to be out of breath, her little lungs making huge effort to keep up with her body’s movements despite them not being very fast.
There will definitely be no climbing.
Standing still and panting, she could hear him count down just past six – how were the seconds going by so fast? This isn’t fair… with a determined frown on her face, she continued to jog her way through the forest until she would stumble upon a rather large oak tree. The roots looked like tentacles that crawled out of the ground in search for something to drag back down into the belly of a beast. There was a gap underneath one of the thicker roots that led into a dark space. She was small enough to fit in there, for sure – could Mr Ridley? If he couldn’t squeeze in, it would be twice as hard for him to spot her.
With a playful grin, Nina giggled softly to herself and crouched down by the large, earthy roots, before she crawled inside the space. Once she was inside, she made herself as small as she possibly could, hugging her knees tight to her chest.
She could finally rest, but had to keep her eyes and ears open in case she had to move to a new hiding spot.
