Morgan #16
Morgan was conflicted. On one hand, Gabriel was right—running was probably the best option. On the other, this was her duty. In her mind, conflict of interest kept her steadfast, if cautious in her retreat. But little had she realised how vital precious seconds were becoming. Even as she watched the monstrous wolf bat and swing and kick and gnash with flaming ferocity, the Professor’s solemn determination was keeping him one step ahead of the creature’s incandescent ire, waiting painstakingly for his moment to deliver a critical blow.
“Wait… What’s that shadow?” she questioned, though the response came nigh instantaneously as the air was filled with a wet, rough rumbling accompanied by a singular yell.“Get out of the way…!!”
“What the–” “A mudslide…?! Hng–”
The next thing Morgan knew, something grabbed her around the waist and shoulder and the world turned to a sudden blur of motion as she was heaved to safety by what she realised was actually Gabriel. Unfortunately, it was a narrow success on the man’s part as both he and she tumbled across the ground as the clay cascade rushed through in their wake. The wolf itself she only caught a glimpse of in the kerfuffle, but sure as damn it those flames were still burning as it disappeared from her view and her eyes saw the sky.“Ack– S#¡+, that hurts…”“I am sorry…,” Gabriel said:
“Mustang, are you insane…?!”
Grrr… Rrr…! Morgan sat up, much to the chagrin of her ribcage, as the previous rumbling had quelled and instead been replaced by the snarling, growling, barking frustration of their adversary. Buried half in wet clay that had quickly started to dry up around it from exposure to yellow flames, the animal frantically struggled against the suction and viscosity of the clay and the firm grasp of baked mud alike. Muscles bulged, but to no avail. It was firmly caked, only just managing to tear one claw free from its confines, but unable to find the leverage to drag the rest of its body out.
Once again, Gabriel vanished, reappearing beside the wolf and swiftly impaling it. What followed was explosive. Accompanying the last pained whine of the wolf, golden fire erupted, baking dry the clay that clung to its coat and forcing Miss Llywelyn to shield her eyes from the fiery flash as Gabriel was tossed back. For a few seconds, she waited, clambering to her feet as she focused herself upon the beast’s form once more—a clay cast pyre that rapidly consumed itself—and exhaled.
“That’s it… It’s over. F*¢<.” For a moment she stood there, grimly entranced by the creature’s corpse as it burned away into ashes around the sickened blood, air scented by something indescribably bitter. She didn’t really say another word, personal drive shrugging off the lingering pain of a handful of fractures as she drew a match and lit it, holding the flame to the blood that stained the steel of her weapon and boiling it away before checking her surroundings. “Thanks, Gabriel. ‘Mustang’. We need to burn the bodies.” She had already burned one wolf, its form little more than ashes being blown away on the wind at this point, and its larger comrade would soon follow…{Post Synposis:}
As Morgan processes what to do, noodle man unleashes a torrent of clay that entraps the burning wolf, which is finished off by Gabriel. Morgan takes a moment to thank both of them, and then elaborates that the bodies need to be burned.
