Patch #6
"Don't look at me like that," Nedri scrunched up her features, glowering at what she mistook for Mimi's 'better than you' face. Mimi didn't really do faces.
Mr. Kahahoe took the awkwardness in stride once Patch or Aizen cleared up the name. He'd probably chalked up the voice stuff to some kind of allergy, poor travelers.
"Now I want to be absolutely clear with the rules Nedri-dear gave you," Mr. Kahahoe warned, ascending the stairs ahead of the guest. One of those massive arms secured at his back in a closed fist, the other one pointed into the air with a wagging finger metronoming side-to-side.
"Please respect our privacy when it comes to rooms. Certain areas of the house are off limits, the common rooms upper floors belong to Nedri and I-- understandably we like our spaces kept and minded," He hummed, lumbering forward yet.
"We like to be punctual, dinner always is and has been at 8:00 PM sharp every night. We take our meals serious here and it's hard to plan around late guests."
The group was about halfway up the stairs by the time he fully turned around. He had been walking slow only really moving after listing every rule.
It was like the rise and fall of your chest. A few steps, rules, a few steps and another rule.
"We have share farmers that come by every so often. Please, please do not bug them," His shoulder slumped some as he offered his hands out. His face was kind of a giant hairball but from the tone of his voice he was clearly pleading.
"O-oh! Sure, sure. You can count on me," Patch chimed in, stammering before awkwardly throwing his right hand forward to shake Kahahoe's.
Despite being somewhat thrown off the mountain of a man eagerly jiggled Patch's paw.
"Abububububuuuu" Patch babbled out, verbal fizz from an overly dizzy person.
If he was soda he would've exploded by the time Kahahoe was done. A smile on both their faces, though Patch needed to grip the rails for a bit to not fall over.
"We run a clean house. No bugs or animals. if you can call it a pest we don't want it. Might not look like it but Nedri has a terrible cough and--"
"UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGHHHHHHH" Nedri was practicing a whale call while simultaneously trying to tell her father to 'shut up'.
"Aha! Right, anyway, off you three go. Three seperate rooms to the right. Only door to the left is a bathroom. I know, no private bathrooms," Kahahoe shook his head apologetically.
He waited around a bit for the group to ask him questions, offering what answers were necessary. But it was pretty clear he had places he wanted to get to. Always pacing off on one foot or taking glances down the stairs. If it weren't for the refracted fish-lenses of his glasses people might've seen his shifting gaze. At one point he looked startled when a loud bang echoed somewhere off towards the front of the house. He did his best to dismiss it.
"Nedri having a tantrum," He'd said, dismissively.
Once he was done playing guide he was off, practically glided down the steps of the stairs.
Boots muffled by the luxurious red woven carpet that slithered up from the foot of the stairs and forked off to the ends of both halls.
Magnificent chestnut colored wood comprised the floor, edges of the bottom and tops of the wall. What wasn't wood was maple-colored plaster. Ornate leaves creeping along the walls from dark-grey stencils. Every inch of the house seemed to capture the essence of nature. There were even a few potted plants up here, some end tables with faded pictures.
Wall mounted candles cast a romantic light all throughout the house. Drip-pans empty indicating they'd been tended to recently.
"Maybe the hallway is all pretty to distract us from bad rooms?" Patch posited, wading past the others and going to the nearest door.
He hesitated when gripping the copper-colored knob. Almost like he could close his eyes and imagine the contents behind the featureless grey door.
"Here goes nothing" He started, twisting the knob and looking inside.
It was marvelous. Every amenity. A massive bed tucked into the corner in sight of the door. Redwood, polished, a frame that extended above the bed to allow white curtains to shroud the whole thing. Quilted blankets of every color, every texture. A wardrobe off in the furthermost corner complimented by a full length mirror and even a lounger in the corner away from that?! The whole place was less than 600 square feet but they made it feel all homely! Especially with those candles out in the hall and in the room filling the whole place with sweet scents.
There were a few nature paintings hung on the wall. Framed in metallic blue, tarnished silver, frames. Patch was awestruck.
"Huminahuminahuminahumina" He droned, arms swinging dumbly at his sides. The place was GORGEOUS compared to places he normally stayed at!
