As B33 moved and did her best to blend in, a small, silent sigh of relief left Cedwyn's lips. It seemed the clarification did help a little. "Yes, well... It's taken most of my time up, which is why I have recently been missing around the lab. My hard work has paid off, finally. But of course, my work is still incomplete, so this must remain a secret amongst us, yes?" Cedwyn said with a quizzical and knowing smile. Of course, this was a lie. His absences from the lab were for different reasons entirely, most of which involved avoiding the incompetence of his peers. Bringing over some supplies and starting a large pot of coffee in a near-industrial sized coffee machine, Cedwyn started preparing for the final repairs on B33.
"Seeing as how I tend to keep a large stock of coffee around at all times and the bioreactor that I designed for B-33 can take both liquids AND solids to act as fuel, just as the human body, Coffee seemed like the most convenient solution." If B33 didn't know any better, she might actually think that Cedwyn was responsible for her design. Anyone who knew the truth or who Cedwyn actually was beneath this façade could tell that not only was he lying, but he was uncomfortable with having to take responsibility for a design that was entirely not his own.
"I will be registering her shortly, so I expect no word of this to leave your mouths until then, understood?" The two nodded and then shook themselves from their stupor, remembering why it was they were here in the first place.
"Right, RIGHT!" Professor Lumbath exclaimed, clearing her throat. "We were just about to inform you that due to some unfortunate circumstances with the board..." Lumbath stuttered for a moment, realizing that this good news he had just shared would soon be muddied with some bad news. Both Lumbath and Professor Gereem who accompanied her knew of how much Cedwyn was looking forward to his break. They also fully understood he had planned a trip months in advance with the understanding he would receive paid vacation for the months he would be away.
Steadying herself, Professor Lumbath continued. "The board has decided... that there would be mandatory overtime and no leave for the next... three... months..." Cedwyn had always had a temper, and the two of them knew it well. There were a few times in the past where he had been nicknamed the "Mad scientist" not for his experiments but for his attitude. They were afraid he would explode again, but when he sat there with silence and worked on B33, they cleared their throats awkwardly and attempted to speak up.
"Um... C- Professor Cedw-" Came the stuttering voice of Gereem, interrupted by a hand raised from Cedwyn. From B33's perspective, all she saw was the vacant expression of a scientist with cold eyes.
"I heard you professors. I assume this announcement is final? Non-debatable?" Cedwyn did not move an inch as he repaired B33 to the fullest extent, even going so far as to mend her clothing using the machines in the lab. The two professors nodded silently and swallowed hard.
"Very well. Then you can tell the board that they can expect my resignation immediately after B33 is registered under my name. I will not have my trip ruined again this year." It wasn't the first time this hell-hole had stopped him from going home, but it would certainly be the last. He had more than enough money to sustain himself and his sister. He had achieved his goal and knew he could get work elsewhere. But now, B33 was relying on him and he knew what it was to be considered an item. He knew he could not allow the same to become of B33.
