Autumn! Reynard's favorite season! Everything was great. The weather, the smell in the air, and most importantly the food. To him autumn foods where among the best that existed and with great foods came great ingredients. Truffle season began in early November and ended sometime around late December. The time frame to locate such an arcane food source was limited. The likelihood of finding such a food source was very slim even under the most perfect conditions. There was a time crunch on quality and quantity... how many where readily available versus how many of those available were even worth your time. However, if you got a good find you were sure to make one of the most delicious and expensive dishes known to man.
Now with this in mind... who would go out of there way to spend their free time looking for such a thing? Well, Reynard of course and many other chefs who took their cooking seriously. Making food was an art and that just wasn't because the word art was found in 'culinary art' no it was for much more than that it was a precise subject one where you had to play your cards right. An intimate subject almost... you where preparing something that someone else would ingest and for that reason your quality had to be of incredible greatness. So here was Reynard! Following his passion as he took a step in Shimoshiki Island! The island with the best environment for truffles according to the light research he had done. At some point in the past, Logue Town too had been good but the urbanization had removed any possibility of finding this ever-illusive fungus.
"Yosh! So this is the place!"
Reynard exclaimed as he began to leave the dock behind and enter a small village of people. A powerful chilling breeze hit Reynard who tightened up the sweater he was wearing more. He looked onward through the village full of various people dressed in all manners of kimono as they went about their day. Merchants selling goods and mason workers laboring to create bricks for news homes that would be added to the ever-growing village. The smell of charcoal and freshly caught fish. All these smells! They filled Reynard's nostrils! Yes, the smell of a productive village.
But sightseeing wasn't what he was here for... instead, Reynard entered a nearby shop to ask for some directions. It was an oddment shop selling all sorts of antiquities and junk. Something that piqued the young marine's interest as he walked through the shop filled with old scrolls, taxidermied animals, skulls, ships in bottles and all sorts of crazy things you can imagine. The place had an old rustic smell and an almost magic feel to it. The feeling you get when you go to an old person's house and everything seems so ancient so bygone they felt like they where embedded into the location. Like they had always been there since the start of days. Finally, Reynard made his way to the back where a desk that had a small bellhop was. The Marine looked around seeing no one was around seeing the bellhop his social instincts told him that ringing it would be the best means to get someone's attention.
He runs the ball by tapping it and from the back came forth a short old man. He shook as he moved with his cane his back arched and crooked as he stepped on a stool across the table to level with Reynard. He looked up at the young lad opening his wrinkled lips that reminded Reynard of turtles to speak.
"What is it, son?"
The old man asked this made Reynard promptly bow respectfully before speaking. Asking for what he had come here for.
"I was wondering if I could purchase a map! I was planning on going up the Mountain."
The old man nodded opening a cabinet. He pulled out a rolled-up map handing it over to Reynard. Immeadily the Kitsune took it lifting his head to ask the old man how much the map in question cost but when he did the old man was already gone and going through the door to the backroom. He sure was quick for an old man with a cane...
"It's on the house lad..."
He uttered before closing the door and leaving Reynard alone. The young marine smiled uttering a quiet thank you before leaving the store.
"Off to Mount Kotobuki I guess!!"
