From the looks of it, Oro-chan seemed to have lost it. The craftsman was laughing as if he had seen the most ridiculous thing ever, his huge body shaking. Rince could hardly fault him for that. It was a normal reaction after being under a lot of stress. Sometimes one could not help but laugh when the stress was released and sometimes the laughter was the thing that released the last of the build up stress.
The pink-haired teenager couldn't really laugh yet. Too present was the knowledge, that they still had two fishmen pirates to deal with – and one of them an especially poisonous piece of work.
„What do you mean?“ Rince raised an eyebrow at the fishman who was slapping his back. It was a little painful on his maltreated body, but not enough for Rince to complain as he could feel the well intentioned comradship in the gesture.
„You were the one who suggested explosives. Have you already forgotten about that? All I wanted to do is feed him until he falls asleep.“
Suggesting an explosion had indeed been a great idea, but Rince would not have been able to use it if it had been just him. His conscience wouldn't have let him do it. But he had simply forwarded his own and Oro-chan's idea and Suzi had done the rest.
Sure, it wasn't exactly a honest way of thinking as he had still passed on the message even though he could have chosen to ignore that last comment from Orous, but in the end, Rince still wanted to stay alive most of all so his thinking had to find a way of dealing with the moral dillema it was facing. In the end, the fishman had deserved it, and it hadn't been Rince who had suggested or executed the attack so he was as morally okay as he could be in such a dillema.
„That move you pulled of was really crazy. Absolutelly cool, but also definitelly crazy. I hope your next moves are a little more... how should I say... directed at self-preservation. You nearly gave me a heart attack there.“
But still, somehow the sight of the giant laughing fishman brought a smile to his face.
Not one of his usual forced smiles that looked as if he had bitten into a lemon, but a true one. Sure enough, his eyebrows were still furrowed, but the smile in his eyes and on his lips was genuine.
„Heh!“ Just like the rest of the Notice Island Defenders, he couldn't help but get infected by Oro-chan's laughter.
„Hey! Did you see that! I betcha glad you didn't send us away!“ Suzi cried from her rooftop and waved her hands, Bruce on her shoulder jumping up and down with glee. Both of them probably had a very proud look on their faces, but from down here, Rince couldn't see them well.
What he saw however was that there was a change going on with the fishman beside him. Had it only been this morning when he met that grumpy looking dude? Hardly a comparison to the man who was standing next to him now.
If only I could feel that confident in myelf as well, he thought, not really envious or bitter – he was starting to like the craftsman so there was no room for that – but with a little bit of wistfulness.
„You should probably tell everyone to take care of the wounded and prepare for the next fight while we still have some time, it's not over yet.“ He could have told them himself, but...
„You're this Island's hero now, After that stunt you pulled, no one is going to doubt you again. I bet they would love to hear some motivating words from you.“
He made some vague gestute directed at the waiting crowd.
Just this morning, most of those people had been non-combatants, but now they were the defenders of their hometown, and without a doubt, Orous was their leader.
