It was beginning to grow late, the sky above appeared as if painted on with vibrant warm colors, a blended array of soft oranges and yellows. The few clouds above radiated with fiery magenta as the sun dipped further beyond the horizon. The water of the ocean mirrored the skies, save for the eyesore of a lifeboat rocking against the waves. Actually, to call such a craft a boat at this point was a grave disservice to the previous owners. There was a massive hole in its bow and a giant bite mark in the side. How it has managed to remain afloat this long is a miracle in itself. Inside sat the capturer of said craft, a fishwoman with drab green skin and her dark hair hanging over her face. She lied back in the boat, snoozing the time away from her late lunch, the cores of stolen apples laying across her chest and the bone of some meat dish hanging loose in her wide, snoring mouth.
A rumbling noise soon erupted from her stomach, which startled her awake. Marina shot up and glanced around in a slight panic, gasping rapidly as she thought she might be under attack again. Another growl erupted from her gut, drawing her to try and settle its rumbling by pacing her hand over it.
“Eugghhh... Need... food...” she groaned in her groggy state, spitting out the bone still resting in her teeth. Just as she started glancing around, she spotted a landmass off to her left. “L-Land?...” Marina readjusted herself in the tattered dingy, putting her feet through the hole in the boat to lazily kick-paddle her way to shore. It wasn’t before long that the already tattered boat began to further fall apart beneath Marina’s paddling, and the fishwoman was violently woken up as board broke out from beneath her and she fell completely into the ocean. She quickly splashed her way to the shoreline after the impromptu wake-up call, clawing her way up out of the sea. She was surprised by the lack of sand at what she assumed was a beach. Instead, she only found her sense of smell being assaulted by the stench of various trash and garbage that wasn’t too far. What was this? A landfill on the sea?
“What in the hell?!” Marina cursed, rising to her feet and slicking her wet hair back and around her fin-like ears, “Ugh, it’s horrible...” She began to walk further into the garbage heap, her nose crinkled up as she scoured the area for any scrap of food she could find.
“This is a whole new low...”
