Khali didn’t answer Toulon immediately when he asked her to join his crew. She was so numb from the mist, all she could do was focus on moving. She didn’t know the answer either way. She did want off this trash island. It sucked. She didn’t like it. She liked clean water and beautiful beaches. People were mean here, and it seemed like everyone was a criminal. She needed trees. So Khali thought about trees, focusing on counting cherry blossoms in her memory as she lumbered to Cog’s Hollow.
Once there, after turning Toulon over to be looked after, Khali had a horrifying realization. She was just setting down to have her arm treated, when her eyes went wide. Where was Annie? Khali flew into a frenzy, scaring the Black Cross doctors nearly to death as she suddenly shot to her feet.
“I thought I.” Khali stammered. She thought she grabbed her! She was strong though right? She had probably fought her way out! Doctors tried to placate her, but she was speechless. How did she leave her? She wasn’t that dumb was she? Khali punched herself in the forehead. Idiot beast! Monster! Just like they always said! Just like Yamato said! She punched herself again.
“Miss Khali! Please stop!” One of the doctors shouted. But Khali dismissed them with an angry snort and stepped forward, grabbing the haft of her Kanabo where it leaned against a wall.
“I have to go back!” Khali growled. “She might need help!” Her broken arm crunched as she lifted the weapon. She was so angry she grabbed it with her broken arm instead of her good one. Pain lanced down her arm and into her body. “I have to go!” Khali growled, when a loud whistle pierced the air. The whistle preceded a dart that embedded itself in the back of the half giant’s neck. Khali’s eyes went wide, and she whipped around with a roar. Several doctors had strange rifles pointed at her. Where they her enemies now?! She had to go! She yanked the dart from her neck, only to have five more pepper her torso. Khali blinked several times, and started to lift her weapon. Five more darts struck her legs and arms.
Khali blinked again, her eyes rolling in her skull. “You don’t.” Her eyes fluttered, and the giantess wavered on her feet. “I have to.” The waver turned to a fall. “Go.”
“The net!” Doctors scrambled, and a device was triggered that launched a net between to posts. The net caught Khali mid fall, lowering her slowly to the ground instead of worsening her existing injury. One of the doctors, an older woman with silver hair, approached Khali’s face as consciousness faded from her eyes. “I’m sorry. After last time we had to develop some countermeasures. We can’t have you endangering the other patients, or yourself.”
“Sorry about the darts. It should have taken only one but Jerry forgot to change the dosage.” Another scientist out of sight chimed in.
“Hey it’s not my fault she’s sixteen feet tall!” Came a voice as Khali slipped into blackness.
“Shut up Jerry.” The silver haired woman responded.
