"Last time I checked you never told me any jokes or did whatever that was supposed to be," Kite looked over his shoulder once more and glared at the Okama responsible for his earlier dismay.
The glare was apparently so powerful that even with his back turned the man shivered and made a very concerning sound. One that forced Kite to look away and mumble something under this breath, shutting his eyes and grumbling immediately afterwards. Having stewed for a bit he shook his head for good measure and opened his eyes continuing to look and talk with Francis. His recovery time could only be described as impeccable.
"Unless you expected me to clutch at both sides of my face and shriek at the prospect of you worrying about me," He stuck out his tongue every so quickly making it a point to tease Francis.
Once Francis took to returning to his station and preparing things Kite got along fine in his absence. Messing around with the pendant on his chest flipping it around and running his hands over the surface of it. The outside sections possessed vents of some kind leading to some dark interior that even proper light couldn't shed off while the middles of either sides top was smooth and indented in such a way you could fit a thumb on it. Several times Kite took to palming the thing and pressing into it like a stress toy. Every now and then a few clicks would emit out of the odd piece of jewelry but nothing more. Used to be that the Kalisto youth would get annoyed from the lack of knowing why this happened but so far along it was more of a tool to fidget with. Each soft click just leading to softer and softer ones.
Silence rolled throughout the cabin when that note was plucked. It was very sudden and very jarring. The scribbling sound of the captain in the stairwell halted and the shrill giggling and whispering of the Okama faded. The only noise remaining in the room was that belonging to Francis, his prep work and Kite clicking the amulet strung on his neck. The next oddity to impose itself in the limited space of the cabin were very solid footsteps outside the door and thanks to the absence of anyone making any noise other than the cook turned bounty hunter it was very easy to pick up on. Under an immediate glance all the people in the room were frozen still, faces held in mid conversation and expression.
Kite was likely the first to notice the change, his head whirling around the moment the Okama went silent twisted into some mock glower only to shoot out of his chair and run over. Not hesitating to poke and prod them he found little to no response, growing quickly on guard his body tensed up as he prepared for what lurked beyond the door. Adopting a stance of placing his right foot forward and grasping his knives out of their holsters. Flipping his left hands blade into an inverted grip and glancing at Francis side long, tilting his head towards the door as if to say 'Get ready'.
For the longest time the steps continued and it was almost the same effect you'd get counting down the minutes in class. Thump thump thump the noise continued growing ever so closer causing Kite to just continue to wind himself up and prepare to pounce on whatever went past that doorway. The folks in the ship remained as they were regardless of being talked to or being touched and kept up the frozen act long after the door was smashed down and Kite forced to leap back thanks to a jump on his part.
Flying a good few feet into the cozy cottage the door made a solid thump and clattered onto the wood and carpet. It splintered in cracks and in solid pieces going from a solid brown door to solid brown door fragments, meanwhile a very small shape lumbered in through the doorway and took a momentary pause to peer in. What then assaulted both Kites and Francis's eyes would likely stay with them for a very long time.
A child. Or at least a child like shape, dressed in a court jester outfit modeled after typical pied you'd see in pictures or depictions. Purple and Gold, their right arm and left leg purple while the opposing limbs gold with the two colors clashing on the middle and washing over the two pointed bell tipped jesters cowl that adorned their masked face. A very crudely drawn smiley face with an ear to ear smile.
There was no hesitation in Kite leaping forward, soaring through the air he took care to cross either of the blades over one another allowing a ringing to fill the cabin. Almost like a tuning fork some kind of energy caused the blades to sing as the tall male descended upon the joker pygmy that barged in and not an inch from having impaled the target was Kite flicked back into the wall. The resulting impact causing yet more damage as the knives did not reach their target and instead were dug into the wall their swordsman was guided into. Flat, arms sprawled Kite Kalisto let out a grunt and plucked himself from his new position. Yanking either knife out of the wall with his hands and running instead to Francis-- wherever he was at the time.
Standing by the counter he started to mesh his knives together allowing them to adopt their sword form.
"Did you really try to kill a guest?" A painfully deep voice echoed out from behind the mask, the stranger shook his head causing his tiny little bell ends to shake and make noise.
"I trust my instincts," He responded, pointing his blade full point at the stranger.
"But lets say I was a child, what then?" It cried out in mock dismay, crossing its arms and turning its back to the group.
"I can see the tattoo... Boshni sent you," Kite practically growled out.
In all this madness, apparently some tattoo was on the little fiend. And sure enough since his back was turned a dark little sun was emblazoned in silver on the jesters back. However this brought up far more questions than it answered and would likely cause the uninformed to wonder just why the heck had Kite IMMEDIATELY tried to kill someone other than they knocked down a door?
Also what was with the crew? Even now with the rubble flung into the room they were frozen. Why didn't it effect Kite? Francis?
