Blind as a bat was a mere saying born from a misconception, yet here he was, blinded by the tear gas with his eyes closed shut and covered by his palms. On a half-kneel, he hung his head. Second by second, he gradually began to grow accustomed to the pain; either that or some of the pain had weakened.
“Sheesh..., I just finished three months’ worth of training without eyesight too,” he grumbled under his breath. This felt just like the time when he was beginning to hone his Haki, having to live every day without the ability to see. It was quite inconvenient back then, but he ended up gaining a rare, hidden power as a result.
His ears twitched at the sound of static electricity in the midst of the storming winds that circled around him.
It’s him..., but something is different about him...
Little by little, his mind grew calmer and quieter. With his vision gone, his other sense took up the frontline in surveilling his surroundings beyond the high-speeding vortex that gradually dwindled in strength. As much as he felt obliged to counterattack, his objective was to free the prisoners. As it currently stands, most of the lackeys were in the seas, and the submarine had submerged, bringing most of them to safety beneath the waves. With his subordinates out of the way and the submarine under the waters, the captain seemed to be planning to engage him in a one-on-one battle.
The Marine Captain was above him, ready to come straight down through the eye of the storm like a bolt of lightning. The Zoan-user clenched up his right hand, reeling it back with the elbow slanted upwards and the fist slanted downwards. As if it had a mind of its own, the claw of his right wing slashed through the air over his head, projecting a crescent-shaped blade of air that bisects the center of the vortex, flying straight towards the diving cyborg. A split second after, the sabotaging intruder punched straight through the deck beneath him, cracking and splintering the first layer of wood until his weight alone caused it to cave in through a small human-sized hole.
Landing onto the interior of the ship with a thump, Midnight leapt away to evade the falling debris. His attention was split in half, one directed at the prisoners down below and the other directed at the Marine Captain.
Echolocation...
The Bat-Human resorted to using his ultrasonic pulses to ‘see’ his surroundings with echoes, making out the shapes and solidity of the obstacles around him.
