As the sun began to rise past the horizon of the seas, a magnificent orange-yellowish light shined through the sky, brightening the sky up for a brand new day. Birds began chirping; their tweets were the awakening call for the young Kuja who slept through the night outside at the border between the city and the jungle. Her olive-shaded eyes opened meekly before stretching her arms over her head while emitting out a yawn. With her back leaned against the trunk, she had perched in between the tree’s bulging roots where the girl had slept. Her left hand had rested by the handle wrapped in black of her sheathed sword that she wore by her hip. If anything hostile were to attack during her deep slumber, the young huntress would be ready to counterattack.
Last night, the youngster had been training to hone her skills over her mysterious powers of the Tsuru Tsuru no Mi. She had little knowledge about how her body became capable of such bizarre abilities, suspecting that it might have been due to the strange fruit from before that were sought after by two conflicting pirate crews. Much time had been spent practicing to control and better understand these vine-producing powers through experimentation and repetition. The nearby trees had been her target practice as something to aim towards. After all that invested effort, Fiona Clementine was far more skilled today than she ever before as a Vine Human. Despite that improvement, she had yet to fully grasp what the full potential of her powers would be. For the time being, several important facts were learned from last night. First, there appeared to be a limit to how far her vines can be controlled from her body. No matter how she grew these vines in whatever direction and no matter how many vines branched off, not a single strand could grow or be controlled past a certain radius around her. Beyond that radius, her level of focus began to reach its limits. Currently, she can comfortably manipulate the vines’ growth within twenty-five meters around her, a distance that already impressed her.
As it so happens, the vines she grew didn’t necessarily need to have thorns as it was also possible to grow strands without such pointed extrusions. Perhaps an even more impressive about these appendages was how difficult it was to damage them. Cutting wood such as branches and twigs could be accomplished with anyone with a bladed weapon. However, when Fiona tried to cut her own vines with her blade, it didn’t work as easily as she first thought. These strands were as hard as stone, and as a testimony to that comparison, they could pierce through boulders like snakes traveling in sand. This was made possible by having a thorn grow at the very tips of each strand. Naturally, this led to the thought of having them travel underground where the soil found in nature became a much easier medium for these vines to slip through.
At first glance, this power didn’t seem as deadly as she did now. Her first impression had been that she could grow just some ordinary stem out of her body, but with this sort of toughness, the appendages could very easily impale flesh and bones. It wasn’t simply good for pretty designs made out of a plants’ anatomy; this could very well be a form of weaponry.
In regards to the vines’ unusual durability unfound in nature, when the Kuja did succeeded form a crevice on the structure, she found that the wound could heal faster before she could continue sawing it down. But, this appeared to be a conscious choice. If she didn’t want them to heal, her repeated sawing and chopping of the blade could eventually severe the strand entirely, but afterwards, she was able to regrow the lost strand in a matter of seconds. The more she experimented, the more supernatural and mystical these green, leafy stands appeared to be. On top of all that, no matter how many times she produced them, she could seemingly always produce more without any sign of fatigue or weakening of her own body. As of now, the girl deemed it inconclusive of what the limit of production was, assuming there was a limit to begin with.
As Fiona stood up, she was surrounded with fallen vines around her with several nearby trunks glittered with thorns that impaled their barks and some with vines coiled around them along with their lower branches. The mess around her was the aftermath of her last night’s experimentations, and she was quite pleased with the results.
I’ve learned so much, but there’s still so much I don’t know.
