Syph looked thoughtfully at the pair as the boy asked the million dollar question. Well it was not actually a question, but for all intents and purposes it was. Honestly Syph wanted to know the answer to that as well. Noticing the girl reaching for a cider filled mug, Syph smiled as sweetly as she was capable as she passed it on to the girl. The girl then asked the same question in a different way. While she had not answered the pseudo-question the boy had said she did answer this one. "Perhaps ..."
She paused looking away from the girl and off towards the pub door. It really was a question of whether or not she thought herself capable. And more importantly whether she wanted to, because she did in fact thing she was able enough to do this task alone. Glancing at the boy, perhaps with a little help even, though she was weary of bringing people she did not trust along. Good help was hard to come by, reliable help even more so than that, her eyes scrolled over the pair of them before returning to her own drink. The golden liquid inside swirled as she lazily manipulated her wrist. Squinting into the bottle she noted silently the amount left before taking a swig. Her mind distracting herself from the conversation that was building between the boy and girl before her. Vaguely she listened to them but she only picked up on major words, ideas, nothing particularly solid.
With her legs propped up on the stool beside her, the bottle hanging loosely from her hands and her eyes staring vaguely into the distance she 'pretended' to listen to their conversation. In actuality her mind flooded with thoughts of the task ahead. Of the level of that beast she had fought and how it was unlikely to be able to destroy the ships at dock in the way that they were. She thought of the marines who had likely inhabited this isle, they should have been strong enough to take on such an opponent without too much difficulty. Even an army of them, if they had some high level marine officer it should have been enough, no doubt in her mind of that. The marines she knew were not so weak. There were definitely stronger monsters upon this island than the one she had fought, much stronger. Would she be capable of defeating them, she was fairly sure of it. Had she not braved fights with foes many times stronger than what she had fought. There was a legacy to uphold right? She was second to only him in that crew, how could she falter so soon. So early in the Grand Line, her name may have been made but it was not proven yet. There was still more to do, a higher stage to stand upon than this one. Yeah, she would do this alone if she had to. To her it was a test, something to prove she was what she thought she was.
Her mind stirred her back to reality as the girl introduced herself and her brother by name. Pluto and Rebecca, the names did not ring any bells. She had not heard of either of them, as to be expected she supposed. "My name is Syphalia, though you can call by Syph. Full names quite the mouthful." Syph said plainly, it was common courtesy to give them her name after they had given her theirs. For a moment she considered continuing to talk about who she really was, a pirate. But she quickly decided not to, perhaps better not to make them worry about what she might do. Pirates had a troublesome reputation and while she was proud to be one, she knew better than to simply throw such a title around. Especially since she was wanted.
The boy mused for a moment about leaving, deciding it to be impossible. Which led to the assertion that she would have to protect them. Rebecca had asserted that and Pluto had in turn backed up such a comment. Syph looked at the pair of them, an eyebrow raised, a bold claim about what she would have to do. Her straight face broke apart as she devolved into laughter, a sweet laughter that filled the room as she found herself amused by the incredulity of the statement that had just been made. Obviously they did not know she was a pirate, so perhaps they expected more compassion from her. But no, she was not that nice a person.
"Protect you?" She asked rhetorically, before chuckling to herself. "You've got to be kidding me. I don't know what you've taken me for, but I'm not that nice." Syph gave them a simple smile before grabbing her sword and placing it upon her waist once again. "You are free to stay in this building if you like, but I am not taking any responsibility for you two." Syph said matter-of-factly as she hopped off the stool sucked down another bit of cider and then placed the cider bottle back on the table. They would be safe enough out here on the edge she assumed, if they wanted to put themselves in more danger that was on them, not on her.
Brushing past them she walked to the door of the pub they were. Her hand gently pressed against the door as she decided what to do next. She was not going to go out yet, she figured it was better to stay the night and then head inwards. Turning back to the pair she spoke flatly "I'll be heading inwards tomorrow, I don't know why the pair of you are here. But I'd advise you to stay here until you can find a way off the island."
