As the kid purposely put the word partners into his sentence, Sora groaned inwardly. The time he had spent trying to get this ‘King’ to understand that he did not want to partner up with him. Now they were promptly going down the street, practically ship mates as they tried to avoid The Don’s personnel. And the predicament hadn’t presented itself in the best of times. The Hoodlum rotated his head back and eyed his pursuers with a scowl; they knew where he was. He could see very bluntly that they had caught him from the bunch and were stalking him like prey. And with their weapons and numbers, Sora and the Kid were like cornered mice. And that couldn’t happen; they could not get caught in a ‘mouse trap’.
This was deep shit.
The strange, dark warehouse could only be described with one word: spine-chilling . It’s broken windows and beat up state, coupled with the eerie silence, would make anyone think twice before going near it. But from the shadow of the forest surrounding it, two figures walked out, one clutched to the other. The bigger one was a man, with wolfish features and eyes, alert as he surveyed the mysterious grounds. He looked to the ginger-haired woman and asked in a low voice, ”Are you sure this is the place?”
She looked up at to the other man and nodded quietly. It seemed, even though she was employed by the man they were meeting, that she was even more so scared than Don Jodes. Aly wasn’t exactly ‘in the gang’ with her boss. She was more of an associate, a messenger to the man. In fact, even though she had met him several times, she had never ever seen his face before. He was always sitting in shadows, with his men surrounding him like a pack of dogs. It was intimidating. And tied with the fact that she hadn’t gotten exactly what her superior wanted, she was a bit nervous at what his reaction would be.
Don Jodes on the other hand, was a little excited to meet this ‘Don Ultrich’. It had been quite a few months since him and the man had been doing business, and Ultrich was quite the business partner. Feared for the toughness of his men, and the hardness of his heart, Don Ultrich was like a rival to Don Jodes.
They slowly approached the front of the warehouse, watching their surroundings carefully. When they reached the door, Aly moved up and lifted a closed fist to the entry. For a moment, she stood there silently, looking blankly as if she was trying to remember something. Finally, her eyes cleared and she knocked in an elaborate pattern that Jodes didn’t understand.
The door opened and two men stood at the entrance of the warehouse, armed and dangerous looking. They gave a quick glare over the man and woman standing at the door, and nodded. ”It’s them Don.”
The two men moved aside, and showed the inside of the warehouse to the two occupants. Sitting in a chair, obscured by the shadows, was a hulking figure. A deep, villainous, booming laugh filled the room, and all that could be made out from the man were his shiny white teeth, bared in a grin. Suddenly, the laughter stopped and he cleared his throat hoarsely. A grizzled voice spoke through the room, one that struck terror into the hearts of everyone, even Jodes who gulped with the déjà vu experience.
”Don Jodes, you’re a very late man!”TO BE CONTINUED
