“So what do you guys say? Interested in a little adventure to get back home?”
Arms spread out, shoulders squared, and a face that spoke of tackling the entire world and the whole ocean single-handedly, if needed, Zane was quite aware of what he had just asked. And of how he had asked it. Confident seemed to humbling for Zane, he was a man with dreams and desires. There was no room to be soft and watched wear one treaded as if in constant fear of who’s toes he may step on. Besides, it was still devilishly hot and Zane was sure that they would much rather talk about his plans than be stuck out here in this crazy desert.
“Dinner and a movie first, Mr. Zane. I’m not exactly trusting of ex-pirates, no offense. And I’m not from Fishman Island, so I wouldn’t exactly call that going home for me.”
“"Mister Zane, you seem like a half-way decent guy.. And I might've even considered your offer if you didn't tell me where you're heading. You don't want me to be by your side upon arriving at fishman island.. not if you want to ever leave that place again, that is.”
Though he wasn’t expecting instant joy at being offered a chance to join his marvelous self, Zane was not expecting the response he got from both of them. Well, to be honest, he was sure they would look at him with a sort of half perplexed look. Their response was a usual one, but Zane had felt that they had already bonding pretty well. Maybe he had come on too strong. No, he couldn’t, could he? Well this was a bit troubling. He needed a minimum of two other members to help crew whatever boat he was bound to “pick up.” Well, he would have to salvage the mess he had made. He really wasn’t expecting that response. Not only did they both reject him, Damashi had left. And as a business person, she was his best chance of getting connections for any other Fishman she may have known. Oh well, she was headed for the city, she wouldn’t leave just yet. He could catch up. In the meantime, he would try to change Idol’s mind. She was the one who seemed to react calmer to his suggestion, if he could get her to join, maybe she could persuade Damashi to join as well.
“Sorry to hear that Idol. But to clarify, I wouldn’t call myself an ex-pirate. I’m more of a former pirate captain who’s lost his crew and is looking to start over once again.”
It was true. Ever living moment panged him at the thought of the failure he was, leading his crew into certain death. Rushing every step, every adventure they had, and completely by passing other possible adventures. What a fool he was! But though he was beaten, he would rise again like the sun. This time, this time, though, he would achieve the goal he had carried with him since he was but a small boy. But he needed these two, it was crucial.
“Now I doubt you’ll enjoy hearing that, and whatever I say probably wont do much good. But don’t worry, you’ve heard of Jinbe right? Just consider me his replacement, and I need you Idol!”
