Zora felt her insides squirm. It was not a new sensation to endure; she often had to repress the urge to shiver whenever the Emperor was around. It wasn’t so much his emotional detachment, though that alone was unsettling. Rather, it was the moments when he let his control over his own emotions slip, when she could glimpse the inner workings of his heart, which repelled the gypsy. The dichotomy was so distinct, the two images of her fiancé we’re so far removed, that it was a wonder he managed to keep such a tight lid on the passions she could feel her presence awoke within him. It was inhuman
And Terrifying.
He comments about how, if the need arises, more food will be prepared for her. Zora knew that he’d say something to that effect. A year in this prison meant that most of the conversations the two spoke we’re simply variations on previous engagements. “Of course” She nodded “I’m sorry for doubting you, it just is so overwhelming at times. I feel as if I’m in a wonderful dream and might awaken at any moment” She smiled, a smile for Selethen and him alone, falsely confessing her total devotion to him in a single tiny gesture, knowing that even if he could hide his emotions, Selethen was not some empty automaton. He could be swayed ever so slightly, and that it was in her interest to play into that as long as she was able.
As he reached out, Zora leaned into his hand, feeling it brush against her skin, closing her eyes as she raised a hand to entertain his fingers with her own, holding his touch there. It never failed to astound her how totally different his touch was to everything else. And that if she closed her eyes, and pictured someone else in his place, it was borderline enjoyable
Borderline.
The Gypsy felt her husband-to-be move towards her, and into her gut creped an icy dread. You can fake a smile, kind words can be empty, and the slightest touch conceals a person’s true feelings. But a kiss, that’s something which is next to impossible to fake. The very idea made her want to gag. Time to take action.
Without opening her eyes, she raised two fingers, gently placing them against Selethen’s lips, only slightly pressing against them, offering no real resistance to his action. “Please…you’ve been so patient, waiting this year. I know it is hard, believe me, I ach to be able to feel your lips on mine. But its not the time yet. When we kiss, I want it to be as husband and wife. Surely…it can wait just a few more days”
And in her mind, Zora preyed to any higher power that cared to listen, that within a few days, a miracle would happen. If she had any say about it, a miracle was long overdue.
And Terrifying.
