Johnathan #1 — Charlotte #1
It had been a fair few days since their departure from Nuovo Romano. The Nessun Dorma was a fine vessel, its sails having carried them far across the waters of the North Blue to a new destination—one mostly out of the way and yet hiding in plain sight. What was important was that the fledgling Anstis Pirate crew had successfully escaped the pursuit of the World Navy’s interceptor vessel. They had sailed for a full day and a half more on a somewhat unusual course, at their Captain’s behest, to fully give the Marines the slip, and then sailed further on a straight course to a new location.
The solid splash of the anchor into the waters of the coast of a lush, mountainous island was a sure sign of relief from what had been a rather rushed and harsh few days at sea by most of the crew’s standards. For Johnathan, the only complaint he really had was that the ship was a little too cramped for a man of his sixteen foot-and-then-some stature, but he would have to make do and mend. For the time being, his deep brown eyes gazed up at the oddly shaped terrain—the namesake of Swallow Island—and appreciated the solidarity of his crew over the course of the last few days.“Cap’n,” yelled one of the men:
“What’s the plan, now…?”
“There’s a small town about a mile and a half north-east up the coast from here,” the veteran replied loudly for all to hear as Rabuka the Fishman and another sailor set the gangplank from the ship to the natural rock outcrop that seemed to form a natural jetty. “We can take the rest of today and tonight to rest ourselves properly, ready to set sail again in the morning. We can gather supplies from town, but don’t cause any problems while you’re there, aye? Last thing we want is to have to run from the Navy again,” John affirmed, showing a preference for laying low for at least a few more days before they made any rash actions. Experience had taught him well not to stick his neck out when the axe was still swinging.
“He’s talking to you, Joey,” Vanessa mocked as she swooped down from what seemed to have become her personal perch up in the crow’s nest. The shocking scarlet wings upon her back—those belonging to an unusual animal companion and not truly suited to flight—softened her landing upon the coarse, somewhat gravelly sands typical of the North Blue. Alan, the flying monkey, quickly bounded from her back and glided over to the treeline to investigate some small fruits growing on their branches as his owner stretched and took a deep breath of woody and coastal air.
“Hey! That’s not nice,” the short and stout fellow replied as he cartwheeled his way down the gangplank for no apparent reason other than the fact he could. “I’ll have you know I’m a fine and respectable gentleman! Isn’t that right, Rab?” A toothy grin turned to the cloaked Gyojin who was in the act of securing a mooring line to the jetty through the use of an iron spike. Whether or not the latter was impressed by the crew clown’s humour was difficult to tell, given he seemed to avoid giving a verbal response.
“Karr, Doc,” Fenn spoke. An impressive man in terms of physicality, albeit of more average height, with dark skin and a steady yet firm look on his face. “The two of you will want more supplies, right?” Indeed, Glacáin Charlotte—who had stepped out from below deck and strolled rather quietly towards the starboard of the ship where the gangplank was set—had expended a lot of the Nessun Dorma’s rudimentary medical supply and carved quite deep into her own. The struggle on Nuovo Romano had resulted in a great deal of minor injuries amongst the crew, all of whom she had managed to treat, many having already shed their bandages. Only a half dozen or so remained in recovery of sorts, though none were bound to the infirmary.
“I’ll require a good stock of replacements and, to be frank, better medical supplies than the ones that were stocked aboard the ship,” Lotty answered rather sharply. “I will make the journey into town for them myself.” It turned out that if you left the responsibility of procuring medicine and related supplies to people with only rudimentary first aid knowledge, it became quite problematic when more pressing injuries and ailments came about. Fortunately, the most severe thing she had been required to deal with was Mister Kovac’s condition after his bold stunt defending the ship, which had been problematic for entirely different reasons…{Post Synopsis:—}
The crew makes port on a quiet coast on Swallow Island, where Johnathan iterates the plan to take some time to rest and resupply before they next set off. Charlotte expresses an interest in gathering medical supplies of her own accord when asked by Fenn.
