Sometimes a character reaches a point where their story has been told and you (the player) may no longer have interest in playing them. You might simply have grown bored of the character and wish to take up something new, wish to drop the character in a climactic moment that sees them killed, or you’re not entirely happy with how the character has shaped up and want to rebuild them without losing all progress. Regardless of the exact reason, there’s options for you!
Here on Bon Voyage, there are two different options when it comes to resetting your character.
Hard Reset
A Hard Reset occurs when a character is archived and whatever X-Poinz that they might have earned is gone forever with them. Additionally, if Hard Reset and reapplied for, the newly applied character will no longer be considered the same character as the one that was archived. Whatever achievements the character might have had before archival still exist and impact the world, but they are not tied to this new character in any way. That was someone else, and this is someone new.
Soft Reset
Soft Resets, on the other hand, preserve a character’s accomplishments and history while also rolling them back to a particular X-Poinz threshold where they can change up their Fighting Styles, Techniques, and Equipment. If you reset a character in this manner, they MUST maintain their original Devil Fruit: If they possessed a Devil Fruit before being Soft Reset, they must have the same Devil Fruit after being Soft Reset. The only exception to this being a character who has not yet canonically eaten their Devil Fruit. Optionally, you can still choose to archive or even kill your old character and then use the X-Poinz that they earned to start a new character off at the corresponding threshold.
To Soft Reset a character to the previous Class, you need to meet a certain X-Poinz threshold, equal to your character’s Class plus an additional 200 X-Poinz. The thresholds are as follows:
Class Required
X-PoinzReceived
X-PoinzD 800 600 C 1,700 1,500 B 3,200 3,000 A 5,200 5,000 S 7,700 7,500 SS 10,200 10,000 SSS 12,700 12,500 X 15,200 15,000
Any excess XPz over the threshold will be converted into Account Rebate. Account Rebate earned in this way can be used to purchase Equipment or Techniques for any character that the player owns as normal.
Do I have to finish all threads first?
No! If the character you wish to Soft Reset will retain their history, adventures, and identity, then you do not need to terminate or finish active threads in which they are participating. You’ll still earn X-Poinz for the newly reset character once these threats are finished and graded, but it is important that you retain continuity! Threads that occur using the previous version of the character happen and are resolved before the reset version is considered active, for the sake of timeline. You don’t get this benefit for characters that are being reset into another character, or are completely shedding their previous identity, and will instead gain Account Rebate for those threads.
What happens to my NPC(s)?
When you Soft Reset your character, you may choose to keep any NPCs that character might have by either keeping them in the Soft Reset application or transferring ownership to a different character. If you decide to transfer ownership of the NPC, the new owner must fulfill all of the requirements to purchase that NPC themselves including Class thresholds, Haki requirements, and the cost of the NPC itself. In the event that you do not wish to keep the NPC for whatever reason, the NPC will be archived as normal.
What happens to my Devil Fruit?
When Hard Reset or Soft Reset, any Devil Fruits that a Character might have possessed go back into rotation for anyone to grab with the exception of characters that are preserved via Soft Reset or characters that are killed. In the case that the Devil Fruit user is killed, the Devil Fruit goes into the Devil Fruit Orphanage, which denotes Devil Fruits that were very recently freed up within site canon history. Anyone who applies for a Devil Fruit in the Devil Fruit Orphanage must respect the Fruit’s timeline. This means that if the character that owned the Devil Fruit died recently in site canon, then the character who applies for it cannot have eaten the Devil Fruit before that point. If the character is being Soft Reset AND they have not yet eaten their Devil Fruit, they may choose to archive their Devil Fruit.
