Mushi Mushi no mi, Model: Black Field Cricket
English Name:– Bug Bug fruit, Model: Black Field Cricket
Classification:– Bug Zoan
Owned By:– Lukas Cowper
Appearance:– The fruit is shaped like small pumpkin, but with a longer stalk that splits and tapers off into two antennae like strands. It’s exterior is glossy and rather delicate as it is easy to crush and would offer quite a pleasant bite if not for the spines that run all around its circumference. Once these are bypassed and the fruit is torn into, the interior revealed a thick black goo in its core, which is delightfully nutty in flavour and very smooth on the tongue. The flesh that lines the inner walls of its shell is brown and on the drier side, easy to chew through and leaves a pungent taste in one’s mouth, as the grainy texture would fill the mouth and absorb all moisture to make the consumer thirsty for the viscous fluid that seeps out from its centre.
Ability:– This devil fruit gives the user the ability to transform into an inch-long black field cricket on command and create the same chirping call for a multitude of purposes such as to disorient an opponent or communicate with an ally in a language usually not understood by your average citizen.
In this case, the fruit has been fed to a deck of cards. As a result, the cards are infused with this power; however, it is only the King of Spades that has the potential to fully transform into the creature, while the remaining 51 cards transform into thin crusty membranes, light enough to flutter in the wind and scatter. Upon returning to the form of a deck of cards, the King of Spades appears to shed layers as a cricket would shed its exoskeleton to create a full set of 52 cards once more.
The individual cards are significantly tougher and sharper than regular playing cards, as their edges are serrated to match the spikes that would protrude from the black field cricket’s hind legs, making them a deadly weapon if thrown at a high velocity. Each card can also communicate with another through soft chirping calls, and relay information picked up through the use of a pair of antennae seemingly drawn onto every card.
Lastly, each and every card is able to sprout six legs to allow it to move and scurry about as necessary, usually to return to their deck or owner.
The image on each card takes on a somewhat comical representation of the black field cricket in some form of gesture or action to suit the card, such as a cricket with a crown of a queen and sceptre on a bed of hearts for the Queen of Hearts, and so on.
Weaknesses:– As with all Devil Fruit users, the sea remains a weakness to this medium. While the cards have been laminated to be waterproof and are quite resistant to the water without the risk of the paper cardstock wearing away or tearing, they are completely useless while submerged in the sea, and if released will sink to the seabed.
Additionally, carrying the deck of cards in a casing made of sea prism stone will also limit its abilities and reduce it to nothing more than a pack of playing cards, stashed away in their case.
