Susanna stared at Maia as if the blonde were some kind of monster that could smite her down any second. In her defence, the look on Maia’s face was equal parts rage and hurt, a truly deadly combination in any woman’s heart. As Susie began to fidget with the apron, seeming to be considering putting it back on, her father simply watched, dying to step in, but he knew that this needed to be handled by her. The only alternative that he would accept would be by her new boss – if this chocolate fox witch planned to hire his Susie Q, then that meant that this anxious mess of a daughter he had came with the package. She best prepare some way of dealing with it. Glancing at her, he waited as the potential employer was put to the test.
As the witch made a sound, laughing at the situation, Maia glared daggers at her. This was the wicked temptress taking Susie away from her?
Susanna turned to Fleur, eager for a distraction and longing to look anywhere but at Maia, but she was unable to meet anyone’s gaze. She could hardly utter a word, her stomach in knots and her chest tight, as all she could do was nod and mutter a silent ‘okay’ that would barely travel across the table and only just reach Fleur’s sensitive ears. As her chair was pulled, the girl of a very small frame pulled with it, she flailed for a moment and let out a squeak, not expecting the sudden movement.
Keeping a watchful eye on his princess and the woman who will be taking her away, Susanna’s father remained silent, his wrinkled brow indicating that his mind was far from blank despite his lips unmoving. Nodding, he stood up. “In a few days.” He finally nodded, his large palms on the flimsy table. His gaze shifted to Susanna who seemed to stand up just as he did, out of habit. Finding that somewhat amusing, he wished she’d sit back down or Fleur would join them on their feet, as this looked rather funny, and he knew exactly what was going on in his teenage daughter’s head, of course…
“I will have her bags packed in the meantime. Shall I expect her back tonight or will she be staying with you until your departure?” he asked in a tone that was surprisingly calm to Susanna. He would usually not be very happy about such a situation.
“Wait, wait, wait.” With a shake of her head, the woman’s blonde hair whipping around wildly, Maia stepped up to the group and intervened. “It’s not that simple, Susie – you can’t just up and walk out like this, there’s a notice. Besides, can’t we talk?” she reached out to gently touch Susanna’s arm who seemed to recoil in response. “I’d miss you greatly. We’re a team.”
Susanna only glanced at Maia once, wishing she hadn’t stood up and drawn attention to herself. She also wished that Fleur wasn’t between her and her father, as he had always made such an excellent wall to hide behind as he’d tower over any threat when he was needed... but it seemed he wasn't so ready to step in either. “I…” she stuttered, glancing at her father, then reached to her bag. “I’m sorry, Maia, I don’t want to work here anymore. I-I’ll pay the notice.” She started, reaching for her bag despite knowing she didn’t have enough money in her purse to pay the notice right now –
but what am I supposed to do? I can’t take it back, and I don’t want to. This job sucks and it’s people like Maia who are too blinded by praise to even notice that she’s nothing but an expendable cog in a machine. She’ll be replaced. I’ll be replaced. What’s the big deal?
The more her mind raced, the more her hands would shake, and for a moment, she had grown so pale that the poor girl looked like she could be sick.
“This should cover the month’s notice.” Her father suddenly spoke, in fear of her dropping whatever her trembling hands would grab hold of and bring out of her bag. “I think it is more than enough. One month's salary is not a lot in a place like this, I am certain of it.” As he stepped in to defend his daughter, he couldn't help a soft sigh escaping him. This Fleur Ayoki woman had a lot of work to do...
Maia looked at Jason, and just what Susanna was silently praying for became a reality. The bounty hunter, large and rough around the edges, struck fear into the Barbie-type that Maia was, his figure casting a dramatic shadow over the girl as the sun entering the large windows had reached its peak. He took a step forward and threw his hand out in her direction with the money in it, causing the waitress to flinch and take a step away from the group. “I’ll pass this on to the management and bring the form… Please wait here a moment.” she said, quietly. One final glance at Susanna, a sigh, and she was off, shaking her head in disappointment.

Well I’m not just going to sit down again now, I’d look like an idiot…
