Steam rose from the ground, the rainwater from earlier in the day. It was a misty night, dark and cold... just another autumn night in Lvneel like any other. Except for Jack, for him, it was a rather special night. It was the 3rd of November... the day he had lost his parents.
Normally, Jack struggled with sleep. But on this night he struggled even more. It kept him awake, it didn't help that the scene was just outside his room. Out the window and in the estate's courtyard. It was there, staring at him menacingly with a mockish tone reminding him of his failure. Of his inability to defend that which he loves. So he would go on a walk in the late hours of the night.
Out into the cobbled streets of Lvneel with nothing but dimly lit street lamps to light his way. Jack let out a pained sigh, his elongated shadow keeping him company. He hated this, hated being here. Hated having to live through this. It wasn't self-pity. No, he just despised this state of existence. It was painful. Painful to just live on when others don't. He furrowed his brow, not quite understanding why things were how they where they were. He felt like a child. Helpless and lost.
There was no use in working himself up, he would get it? Right? He would get closure. Find the killer. Right? Yes. That's what he told himself. That's what kept him going. That and a deep-rooted hope that he would find his beloved sister. Closure. That's what he craved the most in this world. Hands in his pockets he walked down the streets some more, there was an odd stray cat or two walking through them. But outside of that, there was nothing much. Most people were asleep at this hour of the night. All businesses were long closed. The world had stopped. Yet he was still there, in the motionless lonely world. Jack tilted his head looking up at the sky. The stars were dimmed, the lights around him made them opaque. But among them was a big silvery moon staring down at him. It reminded him of something. Of someone.
"Selene... Mother..."
Maybe he should visit her tonight. His surrogate mother was likely who he needed the most in a time like this. Even just being around her would likely help.
