Odie followed Annika through the jungle of fashion and racks of hanging clothes that towered over their heads. Fiore arrived through the front doors just in time to catch a glimpse of the two of them heading toward the girl’s clothing section. She frowned, her brow furrowing with worry. While it was fine to do that sort of thing behind closed doors, doing it in public wasn’t acceptable. She hurried to catch them before it was too late.
Meanwhile, Odie squealed with delight at Annika’s selection. His eyes sparkled with joy. He eagerly scooped up the items that she dumped in his arms and dashed for the changing rooms. He slipped into a free one - they were all free surprisingly - and locked it shut behind himself. He hastily peeled off the layers of the stuffy suit, taking a deep breath and smiling.
He always felt better after taking off the suit. He wasn’t sure why, but it felt particularly heavy to him. Tossing the suit aside carelessly on the bench, Odie very carefully and with almost religious reverence slipped the dress over his head. It fit like a glove. He pressed his hands to his cheeks and closed his eyes, just soaking in the sensation. After a moment or two, he shook himself out of it, spurred on by an eagerness to see himself in the mirror.
He popped on the shoes, which looked adorable and pulled the sun hat down on top of his head. Odie gulped. Something about this… just felt right. As he opened the door and stepped out in front of the mirrors, Fiore arrived looking out of breath, but Odie hardly noticed her. His gaze was transfixed by the person staring back at him from the mirrors. He took a few steps closer, and so did she.
"Is... this...?"
She looked so pretty. Stunning even. Her cheeks were flushed a bright red and her wispy white hair poked out from under the sun hat that she was gripping tightly in her little hands. She was perfect. Odie had tried on these sorts of clothes before, but nothing that actually fit. His mom’s clothes didn’t… They hadn’t looked like this. Big, shiny tears dripped from her eyes and down her cheeks.
“Master Odilon!”
And like that, the spell shattered.
