One Man's Vigilante Is Another Man's Wanted Criminal

[Mr. Moon]

Michael #1 

After their adventure with the rogue jewelry seller / wannabe robber Michael planned to leave the Silver Island and return back to his home East Blue. However, before he and Eve could board their ship home, the lawyer was approached by agents of local ruler who offered him work. Apparently there was a giant living on nearby island that was causing some ruckus, stealing deliveries, scaring tax collectors and similar things. They tried to get rid of him by force, but they failed, obviously. And so they wanted to try it with cunning, hiring lawyer from outside to trap him into web made from legal terms and subterfuge. Well for this kind of job, probably every other colleague of his would be better pick than Michael, but than, they probably all refused, the reward was generous and it looked like that on this Island rain is always coming so he accepted.

Now, after few hours of briefing, the lawyer was standing on the bow of a small boat looking on a beacon sized statue of the giant that was placed on the shores of the Quarry Island.

“You have to be kidding me, what´s wrong with this guy´s ego? They should probably ask Samuel and not me...”
The lawyer muttered for himself as he was getting of the ship, slowly walking down on the pier. Technically speaking he could drop the “gentleman” act as he left Eve behind on the Silver Island, but then, practice makes master.

“Now, let´s get to work...how hard can finding a giant can actually be?”

With that thought he started slowly walking towards the mainland. Tall man in his early thirties, wearing formal three piece black suit and hat, with a walking cane in one hand and folder full of papers in the other one.

Michael #2 

Michael spotted the giant immediately after his feet touched the dry land. He was enormous, much bigger than the lawyer expected living creature can be, yet his face reminded perfectly calm without any hints of concern or worry, even after the overly narcissistic creature loomed over him, maybe in an attempt to scare him off. It would have probably worked on any normal man, but Michael was far from normal. If anything, he was monster of his own, even through not physically.

“Good morning, you have to be mister Hans Fabel right?”

Michael started the conversation with very official tone.

“My name is Jonathan Campbell and I am lawyer working on behalf of the Silver Island rulers.”

Ignoring the giant completely, he reached towards his folder, pulling list of paper from it.

“I have to admit, you were quite busy...piracy...theft of governmental property...resisting arrest…bodily harm...tax evasion...trespassing...unauthorized construction...I suppose that means this thing...”

Michael pointed to the huge statute few dozens matters away from him.

“And the list goes on and on and on.”

The lawyer sighed.

“Honestly, this is enough for a death penalty, or life imprisonment at best. But, since the government understands your situation and the obvious difficulties you have with adjusting to this country laws and culture they decided to be merciful and forget about all your crimes, if you pay for all the damage you caused, which is currently...let me see...”

He looked onto the paper again.

“37 481 762 beli, you will remove this statue and vacate this island immediately.”

Jonathan finished his talk and met the giant´s eyes with his own, completely unfazed by the situation he got himself into.

“Do you have any questions? If no, I would like to recommend you to start packing. This is quite good deal, one you won´t see much in these days.”

Michael #3 

The giant tried to correct him about his title, claiming to be a captain or at least future one. To that, Michael nodded, without changing his bored expression inherent to an all officials.

“Captain Hans, alright than...”
He muttered while making few notes in his papers.

“This title mean you have a ship? That´s actually good news. If you´ll have problem with paying for all the damage you caused, we can sell it and use it to cover part of the debt.”

Mr. Gladio completely ignored the remaining remarks of the giant turning his eyes on the sky instead. True the heavy clouds that were gathering above their heads were hinting, that rain is coming again. That was unfortunate, as Michael would much more preferred finishing everything there without using violence.

As he was lost in his own thoughts Hans continued with his speech declaring his own statue as a piece of art.

“You think so?”
Asked Michael doubtfully.

“Well, I guess we can always offer it in an auction. Maybe someone will actually pay for it so you would be able to cover another part of your debt.”

He made another note, before turning his eyes back to the giant who just begun working on the statue again accidentally ruining it with careless strike of his hammer.

“Hmmmm”

Michael sighed as if this whole situation was making him more and more tired with every second.

“First of all, it´s doctor Campbell not Johnny”
He repeated the favor by correcting the way the giant was addressing him.

“And secondly, I am sorry to inform you about it, but this isn´t your island. This island belongs to the people of Silver Islands represented by it´s government. The very fact that you are trying to take part of it for yourself is a crime very serious crime to that. So I will pretend you didn´t say that so we can focus on the truly important parts. How soon you can leave this island? Will seven days be enough?”

[Mr. Moon]

Michael #4 

Watching the giant during his work, Michael realized that no matter how skilled he could be there was no way he could work with stone like this.

“Ability user huh? And there I thought it can not get crazier than this.”

The lawyer had to wait some time, before the red haired giant finally paid him any attention again. And just a second later, Michael regretted, that the colossal yokel couldn´t stay quiet little bit longer as his obvious lack of the common sense was making his head ache.

“No you can not. I already told you to address me, doctor Campbell”.

Said annoyed Michael, but it looked like the giant completely ignored him.

“No, you obviously don´t get it.”

He sighed as Hans created throne for himself, probably to add some dignity to his otherwise annoying self.

“So please try stay quiet at least for a second and listen. You are no king, just a criminal who is occupying this island illegally. The government of this place...whatever your opinion is on them I don´t care...is offering you a safe way out, if you pay for the damage you caused and reverse all this...”
He nodded towards both the statue and the throne

“back into it´s original state. However the terms are nonnegotiable. If you´ll fail to comply the government won´t have any other choice but to ask Marines to deal with you and that´s the point when the fun stops. Because, once these guys will learn about you, they put bounty on your head and arrive with enough firepower to change even someone as big like you into nothing more than dust. Then they´ll break your statues and make sure nothing that could even remind anyone of your existence will be left.”

Even through he was basically threatening him, Michael´s voice didn´t deviated from his bored, almost sleepy tone.

“Now, if you really understands, start packing and thinking about your repayment schedule.”

[Mr. Moon]

Michael #5 

Although he looked like if his mind drifted somewhere far away, Michael listened to that giant´s words carefully, taking notes about his behavior and obvious narcissistic disorder, for himself. Then, when the red haired “captain” finally finished, the lawyer spoke again. Slowly, as someone who is either incredibly tired or bored, or maybe both.

“Threat? I am sorry, but I think you misunderstood Mr. Hans.”
He put emphasis on the word Mr. as addressing some lone weirdo without ship “captain” was against his principles of honesty.

“If I wanted to threaten you, I would said that the local government authorized me to use lethal force against you. But that wasn´t what I said, was it?”

Even when talking about lethal force his voice didn´t changed one bit.

“No, what I did was merely informing you about the most probable consequences of your refusal of the government´s terms, that´s all.”

Michael gave Hans some time to absorb what he just heard, before he continued.

“However, why should we speak about such grim matters when there is much more interesting topic to talk about.”
The lawyer tried to do something akin to smile, but the only thing his face managed to do was slight, tired grim.

“Your mission here.”
He looked into his papers again and nodded as someone who just confirmed his suspicion.

“During our conversation, you mentioned several times that you have important job to do here, however not even once did you specified what kind of job it is and according to the documents given to me by the local government. No one actually asked you this question before, so...”

Michael looked into Hans eyes, completely indifferent to the vast difference in height and weight between the two of them.

“What are you trying to accomplish here Mr. Hans?”

Michael #6 

Michael wasn´t surprised that Hans decided to share his story with him this easily. After all this type of behavior was in line with his narcissistic personality, as would Samuel said. But still, the way this giant nuisance presented his story raised the lawyer´s eyebrow, as he didn´t expected to actually see scenes from Hans´s childhood.

Keeping quiet till the giant finished, Michael confirmed several theories he formulated before. Firstly, it was good to know that the giant was really Devil Fruit user meaning, that anything made from Kairoseki would make him into easy target. Secondly, his backstory, however emotional it was, pointed him in the right direction regarding their further conversation.

“Interesting.”

Said the lawyer with tone of someone who wasn´t interested in whatever he just heard at all.

“However, I see few misconceptions on your side. If I may point them out. Firstly...you said you doesn´t like bullies right? Yet you are claiming to be friend with pirates. Now don´t take me wrongly. I understand, that based on your personal experiences with this particular group you may have some romantic ideas about them, but don´t be mistaken. All pirates are the very definition of bullies as they are using their strength to break the rules that are meant to protect all of us. Also the way they are earning their living is mainly stealing and looting from the ones weaker than them, which can be also easily attributed to bullies, don´t you think?”

The lawyer gently smiled before continuing.

“Also if I may ask? Why do you think about the Government as about the bully I that story of yours? Because strictly speaking it´s the polar opposite as the Government and it´s laws are the only thing protecting the common folk from the evil.”

Did Michael believe to the things he just said? No, of course not, but that couldn´t stop him from using this words to push his current agenda.
