Cornelius 1
The Silver Islands were at one point an extremely dull and unremarkable archipelago. The sun was blotted out by a perpetually-overcast sky. The trees were almost completely barren, strong winds blowing all the leaves off their branches and forcing leaf-raking to be one of the most common professions of its inhabitants.
But all that changed with the construction of the Silver City, a massive, sprawling complex dominated by an unfinished castle in the center of it all. Even in the dim, blustering archepelago, the magnificent Silver Castle gleamed as though it were the capital of a mighty empire. It was to this castle that Cornelius presently looked as he traveled through the streets, desperately hoping his fine clothes and noble demeanor would be enough to distract the other occupants from the fact that a pirate walked among them.
He really needn't have worried, though. Cornelius's crew, the Bright Pirates, were still very new to the piracy game, after all, and hadn't yet been recognized as such by the World Government. He had a bounty for unrelated crimes, but it was so low that few hunters would bother going after him, even if bounty hunting were a common profession here on the Silver Islands. The people here didn't really involve themselves with the affairs of the rest of the world.
Besides that, his manner of dress and behavior were both still refined and graceful, not at all like the rough-and-tumble attitudes and grungy outfits one typically associated with piracy. Nobody here would suspect him of such actions.
Nevertheless, he worried. It was in his nature to do so, and there was little he could do to help matters. Hence, he resolved to find that book Captain Ruby had sent him for and get out before people started to get suspicious. It shouldn't be too hard to find; Silver University, the local bastion for education, was a staple of the islands, and could be found quite easily.
But as Cornelius made his way there, he suddenly paused, hearing a commotion from a nearby store. A woman in Victorian clothing was shouting at a sleazy-looking shopkeeper with a long, thin moustache, who merely smirked at her. At their feet lay what appeared to be a precious gem... except it had shattered on the floor.
