Personality
"It's an absolute pleasure to meet you! I just know we're going to get along like a house on fire!"
Kahukura is always 'switched-on' so to to say, and appears to have no off-switch. As such, all of her emotions and personality traits are constantly at a level of eleven, and are fundamentally mercurial in nature. Whilst usually a joyous and boisterous person, she is also well-known for her ability to switch to a burning hot rage or an overwhelming tide of sadness at the drop of a hat. What sets off these changes can range from a devastating blow to her fundamental beliefs, to losing in a friendly sparring session, she is constantly and consistently flip-flopping between extremes of emotions. It appears that the only times that she ever truly rests from her blinding expression of ideals is when she sleeps, and even then she is infamous for snoring.
In spite of all of that, however, her default personality trait is one of boisterous enthusiasm. It is rare to see the woman without a grin on her face, be it blatant when she has the freedom to revel in her joy, or a cheery twinkle behind her eyes when she is attempting to keep her emotions on the down-low. Of course, the latter of these scenarios is decisively rare, as she struggles to keep her feelings in check long enough to hide eruptions of laughter. Similarly, Kahukura is an extremely friendly person, often going out of her way to make people feel comfortable and welcome, often overbearing them with attention.
On the opposite side of the same coin, Kahukura is victim to her own fiery hate. An intense emotion that engulfs her entire core when it overtakes. Such is the strength of it, that is truly reserved for very few people or organisations, must notably the World Government and the Revolutionary Army. She sees the Government and their Marine lapdogs as all that is wrong with the world, a corrupt force of pure and utter malevolence. Conversely, the Revolution are false idols luring the downtrodden with a siren's song of liberation to their own ends. When combined with her already constantly fluctuating and shifting temperament, it far from abnormal for her to fly into a blinded rage.
In spite of this hatred of the organised revolution, she maintains their overall goal of liberation from tyranny through her own anarchist streak. She firmly believes that it is the role of the individual to steal their own freedom if they can, and if other cannot, then one must endeavour to carve a path for them. As such, she is staunch in her undertaking of movement to disrupt and damage to the government where she can, and will take any such opportunity to do so. Ultimately, her dream is to carve out a world where she and her friends and family can live in peace from oppression, without any of the trappings of the revolution and its flaws. Her experiences in the organisation have tainted her, and her own version of liberation is almost entirely antithetical to the mere existence of government. Over time, she has fallen more and more into the belief that the existence of law in and of itself is unjust, and has come to believe firmly in the power of vigilantism and moral justice as handed down by the wronged.
Finally, she is wont to take in the simple joys of life, be it the beauty of the beach or sea, or her true love art. Kahukura is a dissident artist at heart, with an emphasis on the artist part of the phrase. She loves to paint, and finds that it calms her otherwise constantly beating pulse. Her favourite scenes are stylised vistas of the sea or of sunsets, and feature brilliant splashes of warm colours. That is not to say she is not capable of more traditional styles or lettering, and she was known to tag insignias of the Revolutionary Army wherever she went after a mission during her time there. Even moreso than painting, however, her true passion lies in tattoos and body art, her own body having been the canvas upon which she learned. Such education is clearly witnessed, as her first markings have blossomed as her art evolved.
Appearance
"Check out the art, it's all my own work of course."
Kahukura stands at a decidedly average 165cm, and her build falls well within the normal parameters for a woman of such a height. However, her lean and angular physique is decidedly noticeable, with her joints and body seemingly being made of naught but sharp lines. Her curves are non-existent, and the faint outline of musculature upon her torso can be made through her clothing. Her arms are similarly toned, however her legs are decidedly different in their appearance. From her hips downward, each limb has been replaced by a robotic prosthetic, relatively crude in design and shape. Accordingly, they bulge out from under her, as if they have been made for a grown man as opposed to a young woman.
Her skin is a deep shade of hazelnut, and a series of dark chocolate freckles cover her cheeks and nose as if thrown upon her face with a haphazard paint brush. However, from her neck down, her otherwise natural skin tone is overtaken by a series of intricate designs of vibrant colours and pigments. The tattoos bare a series of symbols and motifs, although the most obvious are the brightly coloured sea-kings that seemingly adorn her entire body, mixing and matching as if an eternal dance. The sole exception to this is upon her right breast, wherein a simple "RA" has been emblazoned upon her with black ink. In turn, this black tattoo has been branded over with a burning red fire, the letters having been altered ever-so-slightly with black ink to make them appear as if they are going up in flames.
Keeping with the earlier motif, the woman's prosthetic legs have been painted vibrant shades of red, pink, and yellow. The vague imagery of sunrises and flames alluded to, but not explicitly drawn, across the robotic limbs.
In keeping with the rest of her body, her face is decidedly angular, with sharp cheek-bones and a pronounced jaw. The two exceptions to this appear to be her eyes, which are decidedly feminine and a deep shade of cerulean, and her small and rather pouted mouth. Her black hair has been shaved back into a short buzzcut, although this cut is rarely ever shown. The point of this style is, blatantly and obviously, to allow for the woman to switch more frequently between a series of wigs in all different colours and lengths.
Generally, whilst comfortable among comrades, Kahukura will dress in little more than a brightly coloured tank-top and pair of bloomers, allowing her tattoos and prosthetic limbs to be put on full display. To match, she will wear any number of brightly-coloured wigs, but has a penchant to leaning toward pink or teal. Conversely, when attempting to hide her more obviously identifying features, she will wear a wig of a natural colour and length, often a pixie-cut of dark brown. Similarly, in such situations, she will dress in long overcoats and flowing trousers of muted colours.
Skills
"I'm not one to brag, but... Who am I kidding? Check this out!"
"I'm not one to brag, but... Who am I kidding? Check this out!"
Art of Brush & Needle - Kahukura is an exceptionally skilled artist, particularly in two fields, when it comes to painting, and tattooing. The former skill is best exemplified with her works upon canvas, and when she takes to street art with broad brush-strokes. As to the latter, she is never one to go far without a series of pigments and a traditional needle, used to brand skin with her vibrant art.
Traits
- ConductiveKahukura's legs are made of a mix of metal and copper, wires and plating mixed together in a mess of construction. Accordingly, they are fantastic conductors and are particularly good at conducting electricity. Thus, she is certainly weak against attacks that use the element of electricity or any of its derivatives. She is also prone to being struck by lightning during storms.
- Inhuman SwiftnessKahukura's robotic legs allow her to move far faster than the average person, their increased strength allowing her to boost forward at speed. Therefore, she is much harder to hit when moving quickly and can close gaps with relative haste.
- Inhuman DexterityKahukura's training has allowed her to whip and move her body to such angles and degrees that would otherwise be unthinkable to an average person. She can move her body in ways that would pull muscles or dislocate joints in an ordinary human, allowing her to easily shift out of the way of blows and adjust her attacks to come from unorthodox angles.
Fighting Styles
Name: Thread the Needle
Focus: Spears & Dexterity
Class: E
Description: The fighting style is built entirely around a singular weapon, the humble one-handed spear. The techniques of this FiSt seek to use dexterity and agility to best utilise the spear, with the polearm used as an extension of the user's body. Movements are fluid, and almost like water, but are prone to sudden changes when required like a wave crashing upon the shore.
Equipment:
- Uenuku (Rank 0 Spear) - By all means, Uenuku is a basic spear in both its composition and shape. The sole difference it has from other weapons of its ilk is in its appearance, as its leather grip has been dyed to match the colouration of the rainbow, both in colour and in order.
Techniques:
- Name: Kiri Tuhi
Rank: 1
Description: Kahukura strikes forward with Uenuku, putting all of her weight behind the blow, using her body's natural agility to create as much momentum as possible to effectively whip the weapon. In effect, she overextends her body back, then puts the entirety of her body weight behind the blow. - Name: Māminga
Rank: 1
Description: Kahukura attacks as if she is about to thrust forth with Uenuku in an orthodox attack, only to throw it into her other hand at the last minute, striking from the opponent's opened blindside.
Background
"To hell with the revolution! To hell with the government! It's time we burned it all down!"
"To hell with the revolution! To hell with the government! It's time we burned it all down!"
Some people are born to be dissidents, rebels against the status quo and the powers that be, Kahukura is one of those people. Born the younger of two daughters to workers on a sugar cane plantation on Cilla Island, the girl was never pleased with her lot in life. Her parents were hard workers, but never had enough money to lift themselves out of effective poverty. By no means did her family struggle, but they subsisted from pay-cheque to pay-cheque, living upon the land of the family for which they worked. It was there, witnessing the sunsets over the fast fields of sugarcane that Kahukura found her first love, that of art. She started with painting, using her meagre savings to buy whatever water-colours she could from the village centre. At 15, she purchased her first tattoo needle, and far away from prying eyes, used her own skin as a test canvas.
When her parents first found out, they were furious, but the young woman rebelled against such discipline. Such a rebellious streak carried well into her later years, the fire of teenage insurrection never quelled by aged nor by acceptance of fate. Rumours of revolutionary activity reached even otherwise peaceful Cinna, and for the first time in her life, Kahukura felt that there was a cause greater than her own life that she could dedicate herself to. In hushed tones around campfires and in village restaurants she listened to tales of the oppression wrought by the world government, of the people of Saint Reia and their suffering, of the marines and their enforcement of martial law over those who dared seek the truth, of the wrongful imprisonment of heroes of the people, and of endless stories of such flavour. Kuhukura was enraptured, and signed her name to the cause almost immediately.
She told her parents that she had received passage off-island to serve as an artist for an eccentric noble, a worthy pursuit and one that caused much joy amongst their social circle, for she had escaped the binds of labour. She promised she would write, yet she never did. The truth, of her deception and flight to the global uprising, was only revealed when her first and only bounty poster was unveiled not a year later. Kuhukura did not merely join the Revolutionary Army, took such merriment in it that she passed well past the line of fanaticism. She trained hard in the art of the spear, every waking moment for the next year dedicated to practice with the weapon or to expanding upon her ever growing body art. At eighteen, she finally found her calling within the organisation, as a deep-cover operative. She served with great joy as part of a reconnaissance, and when necessary, kill squad. When she killed her first ensign, the name of Monkey D. Dragon and his revolution upon her lips, she earned her title as the "Rainbow Revolutionary" and the ire of the government. It was one of the most joyous days of her life.
Her passion for the revolution died not a year later, a mission gone wrong, a comrade dead, and her leg pinned under an anchor in a burning munitions store. She begged her team leader, her friend, her mentor to save her. She was abandoned. The explosion of the building rocked her, but the rage within her kept her alive. Her previous outrcries of love of the cause had turned to ash upon her tongue and poison upon her lips. The look she had received had not been one of sadness, nor even pity, but one of resigned acceptance and contentment. For the mission had been a success, what was one more pawn to the war?
Yet, even as she lived, she was not the same. One of her legs was crushed to a pulp, unusable and gangrenous, the other burnt to a near crisp. Fortunately, the same anchor that had all but destroyed her had shielded her upper body from the worst of the explosion. Even then, she was to be crippled for life.
That was what she thought, until an ex-marine scientist, a fellow by the name of Prendick took pity upon her. In the forgotten revolutionary, he saw a like-minded soul, one who had been used for a greater cause than themselves then discarded at the first instance that the ceased to return dividends. He altered a pair of otherwise discarded cyborg legs for her own use, and assisted her in learning the use of such.
The world thought her dead, both the government and the revolution, but Radaince Kahukura lived on, forever changed, both in body and soul. She has learned to use her new found robotic parts to their best use and knows that she has been granted a second lease on life, a life that is for the first time, truly her own.
