Always looking towards the next contest, something to measure up against. Slim is the kind of person that has a competitive drive to self improve. Usually this will see him training in his off hours, branching off into areas he's lacking in or that he feels is rusty. As a work ethic it makes him a quick study by virtue of determination. He's also something of a thrill seeker. During training he can get a little too intense.
DaringDangerous missions? Unexplored locals? A chance to face ones fears?! All this and more describes the kind of reckless, risky profile of Slim Chance. He'd sooner suffer great harm then back down from something that piques his adventurous spirit or curiosity. Even if all logic is against him he's a gambler. Something of a habitual optimist constantly attracted to a greater payout garnered by risk.
FolksyWith a way of talking that comes off as simplified or unintelligent most people get along with Slim. He's a friendly guy who tries to carry very little worry in this life, even with how he tends to pick the more intense options. He's often humble and doesn't try to impress and unless proven otherwise often considers himself just a regular person. This considerate nature has impacted Slim's version of justice greatly.
LazyAlways trying to find the easiest most least complicated way of doing things. Slim is a fan of sleep, he's a fan of food and he's a fan of what he calls 'work duality'. For every hour he puts in towards training or some strenuous activity, he's going to take an hour or more cooling off. He'll often store these 'freebies' until he has a days worth and just 'veg out' every other day. It's not uncommon that he may abandon a task because it's no longer fun or entertaining.
WillfulThe Chances are a very stubborn people, Slim is no different. Despite being mostly amicable if he's convinced he knows how to do something or has a particular system; it's hard to break the habit. Without knowing it sometimes he will dig in his heels and will resist the whole way. It's fortunate he has common sense and even if he is bullheaded he does know when to quit. To get that point is a bit of a grind depending on how ingrained the concept is.
Only acting after you understand the situation and have built up momentum. Hedged Justice, often termed incorrectly as Lazy Justice or Delayed Justice, is a very passive approach. While not entirely pacifist in nature it will have Slim devising a fair outcome, or close to fair anyway. He may not be impartial or as trustworthy as a follower of Blind Justice, but once he builds up enough evidence to support an action he's no less swift. A fusion of negative and positive traits.
Write stuff here.

BackgroundMaethen City, Emerald Strip, Aityaia Island
at approximately 6:00 AM a child is born to father Fat Chance and mother Nanashi. It was touch and go at some points and wasn't done in a strictly legal establishment. The doctor was loosely affiliated with the Hunters Guild, she had training with fixing up wounds but hadn't experienced delivery first hand. The ordeal which started 24 hours prior took about 2 hours to see the baby out. Exhausted, nearly passing out, Nanashi held her little baby close and had a perpetual sleepy smile. Fat Chance very nearly forgot about all his worries, the world outside that dim backroom vanished.
Aityaia was a resort hotspot and Slim's father was a non affiliated bounty hunter. In the land of excess, sin and dreams he was always working five times as hard as the next guy for his family. Nanashi didn't seem to mind and did her best to make it bearable, Fat didn't want her working and Slim never found out why. Although the family wasn't out on the streets they were virtually living from paycheck to paycheck. This had the unfortunate side effect of Slim not going to school or being formally educated. Instead he hopped from job to job pretty much the moment he could talk and walk.
As long as the business didn't have ties to the Hunter Guild both Fat and Slim could get work. They had a pretty good reputation as hard workers and not a day didn't go by that they didn't reinforce it. At age 15 Slim had a cumulative job streak that allowed him to walk into a place for odd jobs or temporary employment for the rush season and get it the same day. Slim wasn't happy just making ends meet and constantly challenged his position, always went the extra mile for a potential promotion.
On his sixteenth birthday he bought a book and a dictionary. The book wasn't anything special, it was one of those contrived romance novels. It barely had 120 pages but Slim parked his rear on a park bench and spent the better half of his off hours reading it. The dictionary was for when he came across words he didn't understand. He'd dog ear the page and flip through the dictionary, spend maybe a half minute learning the new term. It was a crawl and he finished in just under a week and four days. A year of that had him reading and writing so fluently you'd be hard pressed to claim he hadn't been to school. Every subject that was applicable to his jobs he learned through later exposure.
Choosing to work for the Marines was a way to provide for his aging father and mother.
Nanashi had been a rock throughout all of this, scolded him when he was acting out and praised him when he was doing right. She always had some piece of sage wisdom or some phrase that'd get him thinking. Her late night talks out under the stars are what Slim often claims led him to wanting to better himself. Fat Chance meanwhile ensured that he always had a place to stay, stuck up for him if some tourist or hunter was bullying him. If Nanashi nourished Slim mentally, Fat was the one that did the heavy lifting. Slim practically gets misty eyed when he talks about how his father pulled triple shifts for clothing or ingredients for a birthday cake.
Initially entry into the marines was met with suspicion. They stuck Slim on odd jobs and virtually barred him from leaving the island. Little by little his genuine, down to earth personality persuaded the Aityaian Marine Base to put him in for a few promotions. It took a few years and often felt like pulling teeth, sometimes Slim just wanted to pack up and go home. He held his ground and on his nineteenth birthday had officially made it to the rank of Seaman First Class.
