Veera had no real recollection of what happened after the initial explosion. She remembered called out for help and a searing light that made half of her world go black. There were flashes of what happened, an image of a fire heard giant lifting her from the briny waters. The sounds of that same giant demanding that the doctor fixed her. The flashes of a light and silhouette above her. The flash of blades and tools. Then the darkness for a few more hours.
When the Mermaid awoke, it was in severe pain. In a place she did not know, unfamiliar and scary this woman bit her lip, hard enough to make it bleed to stop her instinct to yell out in pain. As she sat up, she gave in. “Ow!” She spat once she was up right, only half of her vision was available to her… ‘Shit.’
“Whoa there, hold up lassie. You are in no state to be moving right now.” An older fella announced, getting up from his seat in the corner to run over and press a pair of insulated gloves to her good arm. “You’re quite the wilful one. I kept getting shocks when I was patching you up Miss. If you got hurt anymore your Giant Guardian Angel would squish me.” The doctor stated.
In a dry raspy voice, Veera managed to reply. “Thank you.” She did not move much but she could look over to the door and then back to man. She wanted to see Tia, say thank you, apologies… this wouldn’t have gone as sour as it did if she wasn’t drunk.
“She is still out there, sulking. But she hasn’t left since bringing you here.” He mentioned before bringing a cup of water to Veera’s mouth. “Drink.” He ordered in that tone doctors use when they are being the authority in the situation. “I don’t recommend going back to fight whatever got you like this… but you both seem dead set on it.”
The mermaid took her drink and nodded in appreciation. With her good arm she took the cup to take in more water and when she had a moment let out a long sigh. “Thank you again…” She said softly, hovering her free hand over the mess of bandages that were wrapped around her head to cover her eye. “This was my fault, so I’m going to fix it.” Veera said before moving to stand up, pushing past the doctor and through the screaming pain her body was in.
“No please stay in bed!” The old man called as Veera walked out of the room and out into the open sea air to witness Tia in her mopey state. A soft smile graced her lips before walking forward slowly to the hulking form of the Giant. The very small hand pressed onto the giants side as the cyclops now looked up to Tia.
“Thanks for saving me, I owe you a lot… Im sorry, that went so badly because I was drunk.” The ashen haired woman said, taking the blame onto herself, butting what little strength she had into the grip on her companion’s clothes. “If you’ll have me, I’ll make it right for you.” Her voice was small and pained, but she was putting every ounce of energy to get it to her big friend.
