Brandon #8
In what backwards sea had this plan worked? Met with the rather familiar face of Angelo and, more importantly, that of a laidback and cheery as always Leonard LeClerc, the rather confused but all the same jubilant Brandon simply allowed the moment to unfold. He stared at Sores. Sores stared back, his face and utterances betraying his disbelief at what he had just witnessed. The penguin simply nodded, sunglasses falling down the length of his beak slightly to reveal the avian face beneath.
A beady eye winked.
“Here there be monsters,” Leonard huffed, dropping the two men upon the bed, unconscious. Competence was clearly not their strongest suit. All the same, the familiar tone of a question was presented to the yellow-furred man, who eventually replied in assurance. It seemed they were set. With that, Brandon doffed his disguise, but first turned to face Leonard. A flipper grabbed the front of the coat, opening it out to reveal the most peculiar sight and a flat and very long penguin torso, but also the blade with which he had been entrusted.
“Oru,” the folding fowl would chirp, knowing now that the sword was back with its rightful owner, body popping and puffing back into its smaller and smoother shape. Trench coat fallen, discarding the glasses and stepping out of the boots, he looked up to the two men with comfort and curiosity glittering in those eyes of his. A new addition to this strange huddle of human and bird, all that remained was to escape the callous cave that was this horridly oppressive version of a human nest.—— UPSTAIRS ——
A knock at the door.“Enter!”
“Master Chief Petty Officer Megin reporting, Sir,” a seaman saluted. “I’ve just received word that an unknown figure has been spotted on site!”
Stern eyes looked up from the desk to get a better look at the NCO in the doorway — a man of good build and healthy complexion who held firm his stance and salute in the Captain’s presence. Jolnir’s face twisted slightly, threatening a frown and perhaps even a scowl.
“Go on,” he growled.
“One of the recruits said they saw a man in a coat talking to Isnir and Joster at the gate,” Megin continued, elaborating at his superior’s request. “Apparently they escorted him into the main building, Captain,” came the last crucial piece. Jolnir’s lips straightened, his body rising from his chair in a manner that made Megin tremble slightly, but the latter managed to ease his knees long before the Captain noticed.“Megin!”
“Sir!”
“Remind me to put those two on boot shining duty for a month when this is sorted,” the goliath said, grabbing his weapons from their mount on the wall and striding furiously out of the office. Megin simply nodded, dropping the salute and following in the CO’s wake.{Post Synposis:—}
