Personality
Formerly a bright-eyed and curious child whose inclination leaned towards extroversion, successive tragedies in his teenage years has turned Kaze into a cold and detached, albeit polite, young adult. He is generally taciturn when interacting with strangers, never willing to say any more than is necessary, but is more forthcoming to those who have known him long enough. Traces of Kaze's more carefree younger self can still be found in his current personality, often manifested in his eagerness to pick up new knowledge. This has earned him some esteem in his circles as a learned man. In addition, he is an able conversationalist, an attribute which makes his otherwise solemn presence tolerable on long voyages.
His crew mates have compared his demeanor to that of a "brooding monk whose faith has been shaken at its foundations by lustful demons," but Kaze is thick-skinned and pays no attention to these kinds of comments. Even if there's a good chance they might be true. Hailing from a nation that determined the worth of its denizens by their strength and wits, and whose values he has already discarded, Kaze is fair-minded in his association with others; for example, he has no negative preconceived notions against fish-men or those from the Mink Tribe, and has learned to stifle his surprise when his journey brings him into contact with unfamiliar races - a lesson learned from experience after an unpleasant encounter with a Longleg warrior.
Kaze is often apprehensive about the intentions of others and a natural skeptic, a trait augmented by the aforementioned tragedies, but is fiercely loyal to those who manage to earn his trust. This is best exemplified in his treatment of Rohm, a comatose childhood friend whose treatment he continues to pay for, and the last remnant of his "pirate crew". Although it would be inaccurate to say he is selfless, it is true that Kaze's ambitions have always been for the sake of others - even now, he has not yet gotten used to life as an allegedly free man.

Appearance
A man who holds slouchers in contempt; his excellent posture often makes him seem more imposing than his 180cm (5'11") frame would suggest. Kaze's skin, lightly tanned, is a clear indicator of his upbringing as a man-at-arms. Surprisingly, despite beginning his training at the mere age of seven, only two scars obtained during this colourful childhood decorate his body - a long line across the middle of his back in the vague shape of a whip, and a significantly smaller one on his hand, an accident from his first fight with proper swords.
A lifetime of harsh training has left him hard and lean, although this does not mean he neglected to whet his mental faculties; a wisdom beyond his twenty years is reflected in Kaze's defiant gaze, and his eyes are a deep shade of taupe. He possesses the traditional sharp features and traits of the Mochizuki clan: high cheekbones, focused, narrow eyes and striking dark hair. He admittedly does not tend to the latter as one ought to, so it is not uncommon for his hair to reach the length of his waist.
Kaze has little taste for fashion, and tends to prefer the traditional garments of his home country - a simple single piece robe, preferably in a muted colour, with a red sash belt to put it together. Having said that, he has no qualms about adjusting his attire to suit the climate of whatever island he happens to be on, but does tend to value comfort over style.
