Personality
Battle Tendency: Dazo’s love for battle and conflict is likely his biggest flaw as a person, and his tendency to start fights can be a nuisance for those around him. He is constantly searching for opponents who can match him in strength and skill, and loves discovering new and interesting fighting styles. He especially loves fighting other devil fruit eaters, as one can never be sure how two fruit users will match up against each other. He fights to the bitter end, even against someone whom he’s already realized is out of his league. The only way he’ll stop fighting is if he’s forcibly dragged away from his opponent, knocked unconscious, or killed.
Wrong side of the law: Dazo lived for many years with the goal of joining the Marines and working hard to protect others. While he still longs to protect those he cares about, he realized a long time ago that protecting everyone is impossible. The only way to be truly happy is to protect what matters to you. Thus, Dazo has forgone his initial connections with the Marines that he had built up from his childhood in favor of a more free life. No one can tell him who he has to protect. This in turn has given him a sort of awkward relationship when it comes to interacting with marine individuals. He has no bad blood with them, but his choice to be a pirate has made his existence a crime to them.
Big Blue Sea: Dazo’s first love before fighting was adventure. Exploring the world and seeing everything that the sea has to offer will always be what makes Dazo get out of bed in the morning. The lure of a new adventure is what he believes to be the true drive of every pirate. Fame, power, and glory are all second place to the one true drive of piracy, adventure. He no doubt inherited this trait from his late sister, Rukumi.
Hail to the King: Dazo’s dream is to become the King of the Pirates. Dazo is like many others who sail to the Grand Line in search of fame, power, wealth, and adventure. He dreams to find the One Piece and cement himself as the strongest fighter in the world. Dazo trains himself every day, and believes that there is no such thing as an unworthy opponent. Dazo wishes to surround himself with capable friends and allies who can help him reach the Grand Line.
Unique Laugh: Dazo has a unique laugh “Awahahaha”
Appearance
Dazo’s looks: Dazo is a handsome young man, with peach skin tone and jet black hair. He has a scar on his forehead running up from his right eye to his hair, parting his eyebrow in half. He has brown eyes and his hair is short. He has well toned muscles all over his body, a clear sign of his rigorous training and physical fitness.
Dazo’s fashion: Dazo usually wears a bright white beanie, and a pair of similarly colored earmuffs, usually around his neck. He wears an orange headband around his forehead, which hangs down behind him. For his torso he sports an orange karate gi top with a black belt. Underneath he wears a white compression shirt. His karate attire extends down to his pants as well, with a pair of white karate pants. For shoes, he usually just wears sandals, but will often take these off in combat, with a few exceptions.
Dazo’s conduct: Dazo holds himself highly, but not to an overbearing degree. He can often be seen with a smile on his face and laughs often. He often talks with his hands a lot, using them to accentuate his points, or give perspective on something he may be talking about. Often this may look like he’s flailing his arms wildly however.
Traits
Inhuman Strength: Dazo is unnaturally strong for someone of his size and build, and can easily crush rocks and lift boulders. This strength also aids him in challenging foes who are much larger than him. He has adept control of his body, so as to not accidentally put too much force into what he’s doing at any given time.
Inhuman Toughness: Dazo’s body is more durable to physical damage than most ordinary people, mostly in part from his intense physical training regimen that keeps his body in peak physical condition. This super tough body keeps him going long into drawn out fights, and is at its most useful against opponents who rely purely on physical power.
Foaming Human: Having eaten the Boko Boko no Mi, Dazo is a Foaming Man, and is able to produce pressurized bubbling foam from his body and control it at will. (200 Poinz)

Shimagure Dazo, age 14, sits exhausted on the floor of a small room. A wooden dummy standing upright in front of him. A stoic, elderly man behind him. Dazo’s hands were bloody, and his legs bruised. He was breathing heavily and sweat was dripping down his face. It was the dead of night, around 1am. Dazo was training with his master, former captain of the Marines, Momogin Arnold. Arnold was a decorated face in the ranks of the Marines, having traveled throughout Paradise and thwarted the activities of many pirates. Arnold was a hero, and prided himself on protecting everyone he could, a feat he seems to be well known for. Throughout the West Blue, especially on the island of his birth, a saying floats around. “The reaper goes to lunch when Arnold arrives.” Marine Captain Momogin Arnold does not have a single casualty to his name. The protection of life is paramount to him, as long as lives are saved, his job as a Marine was successful. That was the kind of man he was, and the kind of man Shimagure Dazo wanted to grow up to become. Shimagure Dazo and Momogin Arnold happened to share an island of origin. A small farming village, Cornmeal Town. Cornmeal Town was situated on the farming island, Produshima, and it is here where Dazo met Arnold.
4 Years Prior(Dazo is 10)
When the marine battleship first dropped anchor off the coast of Cornmeal Town, Dazo couldn’t help but be in awe. The massive scale of the vessel was unlike anything he had seen before. It’s craftsmanship was finer than any house or carriage he had seen on the island. The most impressive part however, was the crew. Hundreds of marine soldiers, all wearing their matching uniforms and signature caps. Some with swords around their waists or rifles strapped to their backs. These men were soldiers, but more importantly to a young, impressionable Shimagure Dazo, they had seen the world outside their homes. Dazo, being only 10 years old, had never left Produshima. He had never even been on a boat before. These men were way out of his field of understanding. Just what have they even seen.
Suddenly, Dazo was approached by a tall man, with short blonde hair and a large beard. He was wearing a large marine issue coat over his shoulders with , and was eating a whole turnip raw. He seemed to be enjoying the vegetable, he likely didn’t have access to farm fresh produce round the clock on that ship. Dazo looked up in wonder at the man, who was no doubt a marine official. He almost didn’t get a chance to open his mouth to speak. “Do you think I could be like you some day?” Dazo inquired. The man looked down at the small boy speaking to him. He was nothing impressive, looking rather dirty and scrawny from his point of view. The marine knelt down, swallowing the bite of turnip he had in his mouth. “So, you wanna be like old Arnold, eh?” The man spoke, addressing himself as Arnold. The marine was slightly humoring the boy, but was also genuinely curious. The Marines are always looking for new recruits, and though this boy was much too young to be joining, he could turn into a promising new addition. Arnold didn’t give Dazo a chance to reply, instead standing up, finishing the rest of his turnip, and signaling to his men that it was time to depart. They had finished gathering supplies and were returning to their other duties. Dazo watched as several men piled onto a rowboat, along with the man who called himself Arnold. He couldn’t wait to tell his sister about today.
Shimagure Dazo had an older sister, a young woman of 19, Shimagure Rukumi. A beautiful girl with long black hair and intense eyes. After the death of their parents due to illness, Rukumi had to step up and take care of the both of them. They both worked different low paying jobs to help keep food coming in. Rukumi would work in town, usually in the evening as a waitress, but would sometimes also clean houses for extra money. Dazo, being less elegant, was usually stuck with dirtier jobs like farmhand. His abnormal strength for a kid his age helped him easily till fields and herd livestock. They usually were scraping by for things like bread and meat, but the abundance of produce on the island, coupled with the pity of their neighbors, kept them fed.
Dazo crashed through their front door, nearly sending it off its hinges, and began raving about the marine he met in town. Rukumi’s face lit up as well, normally she was always interested in listening to her little brother, but on this particular occasion, he was talking about something that was important to her as well. Rukumi knew the man he was speaking of, Momogin Arnold. That was the name of a Marine who had saved her life several years prior. Rukumi sat down with Dazo and told him about the experience. She was young at the time, younger than Dazo was now. While she didn’t remember exactly how old she was, she ballparked it around 8 or 9. She was upset at their parents, the reason was so small and insignificant at the time, just remembering being mad at them at all made her tear up a bit, but she continued on with her story. Rukumi wanted to be a pirate when she was a little girl, and was infatuated with the idea of seeing the world and being free to go wherever she wanted. When she told their parents however, they became furious and worried. Produshima was an island with strong ties to the Marines, as for decades they have provided marines in the west blue with fresh fruit and vegetables, along with other supplies to aid them on their journeys. The idea of one of their own becoming a pirate was both unthinkable and extremely worrying. Her father especially couldn’t bear the idea of his little girl being sent to a prison with criminals and monsters who would eat her alive. They demanded she leave any ideas of piracy in the past. Rukumi had no intentions of listening to her parents however, and ventured off into Cornmeal Town to find a pirate crew to join.
Though the island was always under the watchful eye of the marines, it didn’t actually have a marine base situated on the island at the time. Thus, pirates would often drop anchor and come into town for supplies as well, albeit on a much more lowkey note, for fear of the possibility of running into the law. A small 9 year old girl wandering on her own in search of dangerous individuals wasn’t something most people in Cornmeal Town had much experience dealing with. People enjoyed their lives here, it was peaceful. Most of the time, however, that peace was about to be broken to a high degree.
As a young Rukumi strolled through the Cornmeal Port, her eyes were immediately drawn to a black flag, dancing in the wind. Adorned with the skull and crossbones she had been looking for, she gallantly made her way up the ramp and onto the vessel. On deck were several imposing looking men, playing cards and entertaining themselves. The instant Rukumi’s head popped into view, all eyes were on her. Several of them told her she was lost, but the headstrong young girl demanded to speak with the captain of the ship.
A tall man with a large captains cloak and hat walked out from a room on the inside of the ship. Rukumi regrets that after this point, her memory of the occasion grows to be a bit fuzzy. She remembers the man saying he was the captain of the ship, which belonged to the Heckle Fang Pirates, and that the Captain stated that he wasn’t to be messed with, claiming to have a bounty of 21,000,000 Berry. She remembers being grabbed and held up by her shirt, and then being tied up by some of the other men. She remembers being scared, but also acting like she wasn’t.
The Heckle Fang Pirates wanted to hold her up for ransom, and would have been able to, had the vessel of Captain Momogin Arnold not been arriving at the port of Cornmeal Town. He realized what was going on immediately, and fought off the Hecklefang Pirates single handedly to save Rukumi.
From that day on, Rukumi didn’t say anything more about being a pirate. The experience hadn’t sullied her opinion of the sea, or adventure, but her young mind ended up forming a different view of what pirates were. Rukumi had never told Dazo about this before, simply because she thought it was so small and meaningless that she didn’t want to worry him with it.
Dazo was a bit too young to think much of the story at the time, and formatively it would not give him a negative opinion of pirates, but rather an extremely positive opinion of the marines. Dazo was determined to join them one day. After listening to the story, he ventured outside, and a bit foolishly, began punching a tree. He truly believed that would make him stronger.
2 Years Later(Dazo is 12)
The trees that stood outside the home of the Shimagure family all were either toppled or had large dents in them. Months and months of constant punching and kicking had deforested quite a bit of the woods close by. It strengthened the young boy, and also provided firewood. Though punching trees definitely made him physically more powerful, he had no concept of fighting, he had never fought anyone. He would need to change that. Dazo made his way into Cornmeal Town, hopefully the man he was looking for would be there.
Momogin Arnold had arrived once again on Produshima, this time however, he was not as jovial as he once was. He had a long sullen look on his face, and was holding what looked like a bottle wrapped in a paper bag. Dazo wasn’t exactly the most empathetic person, and only saw this as an opportunity to strike the imposing man down and show his power. Leaping at Momogin Arnold, screaming and ready to throw a punch, he approached with the intent to land a solid blow. Unfortunately, before Dazo could even realize what had happened, He was being held up by his shirt by the Marine captain. Arnold was in no mood for a child to be playing games with him. However, Arnold could see that Dazo had a certain intensity in his eyes, and put him back on the ground. Arnold sat down on a nearby bench, and motioned for Dazo to sit with him. Dazo hopped up and sat next to Arnold. Arnold asked Dazo what he thought he was doing, to which the boy replied that he was gonna beat Arnold up and prove that he could be a strong marine too, like Arnold was. Arnold let out a hearty laugh, and after a moment of contemplation, asked Dazo what he thought it is that a marine does. Dazo didn’t need any time to think about it, and responded with the answer that he had told himself for years. He told Arnold that marines are people who are strong, and always protect everyone. That statement, while noble, also caused Arnold to feel a great deal of sadness. The Marine Captain smiled however, and pulled out the bottle he had in the bag he was holding. Dazo noticed however, that it wasn’t an ordinary bottle, it didn’t really look like a bottle at all at this point. Arnold explained that the strange object in his hand was a devil fruit, specifically the Boko Boko no Mi. Whoever consumes it, will be able to emit a foam that can move entire mountains in the right hands, or so he says. Arnold had planned on giving it to his daughter, a Marine Ensign named Momogin Shirley. She was a valiant young girl, who had just been promoted and was to begin serving under her father, however, her vessel was intercepted by a pirate ship, and she was killed. This happened only a few days ago, and the fruit was found only a week prior. Arnold wanted to give it to his daughter as a gift for her promotion, and to help her get stronger. Now that would never happen.
Dazo had never seen a devil fruit before, he wasn’t even sure if they were real or not. Seeing one now was surreal, it looked almost like it wasn’t a real thing. Dazo was drawn to the fruit, his hands reached out to try and take it from Arnold’s hands, but he reeled back. Arnold was already upset, but now this child wanted to take the last thing that could remind him of his daughter? He should have struck the child to teach him proper manners, but a different thought came over his mind. Arnold explained that if Dazo promised to train every day with Arnold to become a strong marine, then Arnold would give Dazo the fruit. Arnold had lost a daughter, but maybe through time spent with this boy, he could gain a son.
Arnold explained that he was born on Produshima, just like Dazo was. He had always stopped by before going on long journeys to stock up on fresh fruit and vegetables. He explained that due to this recent hardship he had gone through, that he would be resigning from the marines. It was merely fate that brought Dazo to him. Arnold also explained that he had just returned from a trip to Marineford to convince the higher ups to build a marine base on Produshima, which was approved. The base would take quite a long time to construct however. Production wasn’t going to start until two years from now, and it likely wouldn’t be finished until 5 years after that. Arnold explained that if Dazo could sufficiently impress him by the time the base was complete, he would give Dazo the fruit, and a high letter of recommendation for entry into the marines. Dazo’s eyes lit up, and he agreed immediately. Arnold’s depressed demeanor turned to joy, and he led Dazo to his home, a dojo on the outskirts of town.
Momogin Arnold owned an estate on the edge of the village, a large but simple home that mostly housed an open floor plan, with most of that being taken up by training space. Momogin Arnold was a hardcore Martial Artist, when he wasn’t protecting citizens or apprehending criminals, he was practicing, or learning a new martial art. Arnold explained that he would be overseeing Dazo’s training, but that he wouldn’t be teaching him any one martial art. Dazo was to create his own style of fighting, and if it could impress Arnold, he would be given the fruit. Dazo, determined to find his style, began punching everything inside Arnold’s home, much to the dismay of Arnold himself.
7 years later(Dazo is 19)
Too fast. How did you come up with that? Have you been seeing another master while I’ve been out?
Arnold jokingly asked his pupil, young Dazo was now a young man, a fighter, and marine to be. Dazo struck a respectful pose and bowed to his master, and ran out to go home. He had to tell his sister about how well everything had been going. Dazo could feel that his training was coming to a close soon. Rukumi was 28 now, but despite this, she still had never left her home island. The most adventure she would ever get would still be listening to Dazo talk about whatever wild shenanigans he would get himself into. For the past 7 years, Dazo had been going off every day to train with the man who had saved her life almost 20 years ago. She couldn’t be more grateful that her little brother had been given this opportunity. She would have to personally thank him at some point. She had been baking a pie, and she thought it right to give it to Arnold. Despite Dazo’s protests as having just come from there, Rukumi insisted that he return to his home and give him the pie. It was her specialty, orange pie. Dazo agreed, in the hopes that he’d get a slice upon returning to his master. Dazo rushed back over, and upon arriving once again to his masters home, found no one to be there, despite having just seen Arnold there only a few minutes prior. Putting the pie down, Dazo noticed something out of the ordinary, Arnold’s marine jacket and hat, which were normally always hung up, were missing. Not only that but, the den den mushi that was reserved for calls to other marines, it had been used. Its receiver was still hanging by the side of the table. This couldn’t be good. Produshima hasn’t been attacked in over 5 years. When word got out that Arnold had retired, no one wanted to mess with an island that had a resident marine captain. If there was an emergency that required Arnold to take action, it must be serious. Dazo glanced over at a pedestal that displayed the Boko Boko no Mi. A serious threat like this could be solved quickly with the powers of a devil fruit. Dazo lifted the fruit up, contemplating it for a moment. There was no way he hadn’t impressed Arnold by this point. He took the fruit in hand, and after a great deal of hesitation, took a large bite right out of the side. Despite being alone, Dazo tried to pretend that it wasn’t the worst thing he had ever tasted in his life. His options were to either swallow or spit it out, but only one of those options would give him more power, so he swallowed.
At first Dazo couldn’t feel much of anything, but then he felt a sort of stinging sensation of the tips of his fingers, then all over his body, and then nowhere. Arnold had explained that this fruit could move mountains with foam, if he was recalling correctly. How could foam push things? He concentrated for a moment, and suddenly, a pale foaming substance erupted from his hands. He tossed this substance at one of the sliding doors that led outside. Dazo was astounded seeing this seemingly normal foam push the sliding door right off its hinges. Dazo couldn’t believe his eyes. He was astounded at such a weird but useful power. With this, he could truly make his own martial arts style unique. He couldn’t lose focus just yet though. He had to respond to whatever emergency was going on in town.
Dazo ran as fast as he could into Cornmeal Town. As he got closer and closer, he could hear screaming and shouting. There was some smoke billowing up from out of view, and as he got closer, he could see that there were marines fighting with pirates. He peered around, looking for Arnold, but couldn’t see him. This was bad, it looked like the pirates were outnumbering the marines. The marine base was close to being finished, but it wasn’t currently being actively used to the full extent of its abilities, and thus was understaffed. Dazo ran around, helping the marines that he could with pirates, while also looking for Arnold.
It took him around ten minutes of searching and fighting, but he found him, locked in combat with a pirate of imposing appearance. Dazo rushed in to help, and activated his new powers. Whatever expression of relief he was expecting to see on Arnold’s face was instead that of disappointment. Arnold was furious, so furious that he stopped messing around, and with a swift chop to the neck, incapacitated the pirate so that he could have a conversation with Dazo.
Arnold was livid, he couldn’t believe that Dazo disobeyed him and ate the Boko Boko no Mi without explicitly being told he could. Dazo was confused, he was sure he had done enough to prove himself worthy of eating the fruit. Arnold grabbed Dazo by the collar, stating it was never about whether he was worthy of eating the fruit. It was about proving that he could follow orders, as well as showing that he had what took to carry on Shirley’s spirit. Shoving Dazo away, in one final gesture of kindness, asked if Dazo knew if his sister was safe or not. A dreadful expression washed over his face, why did he come down here. He should have rushed home to protect his sister. Dazo rushed off once more, this time, headed for home, and hopefully, Rukumi.
Dazo broke through his front door, and just as he did, walked in to see a pirate cutting his sister down with a swift strike of a blade. Without hesitation Dazo immediately burst forward and struck the pirate with such force that he got sent flying outside, through a wall of solid wood logs. Dazo picked his sister up off the ground and leaned her up against one of the walls that wasn’t broken. She had already lost a tremendous amount of blood, with a wound stretching from her shoulder to her waist. She wasn’t as durable as her brother. Dazo wasn’t sure if she would make it. Rukumi, in what looked to be her final moments, took her brother's hand. She spoke in a low voice, almost a whisper. She asked Dazo to see the world that she never got to. She told him to be the best he could be, and never stop having adventures. At this point, tears were rolling down Dazo’s face. As the last shreds of life escaped from Rukumi, Dazo could hear someone walk into his home. Immediately turning around with the intent to kill in his eyes, he stopped just short of striking, as the man before him was Momogin Arnold.
Arnold had no expression on his face, he wasn’t happy to see Dazo, and he felt no sympathy for him either. Arnold spoke, in the same aggressive tone he used back in Cornmeal Town. He told Dazo that he was still allowed to join the marines, but would receive no support nor blessing from him. Dazo didn’t care about that anymore. He didn’t care about joining the marines, nor did he care about attaining Arnold approval. He talked back to his master for the first time in his life. Dazo simply said a number. One. Arnold had let someone die on his watch. Dazo had no intention of being associated with Momogin Arnold anymore. Arnold asked Dazo what he would do now. A question Dazo wasn’t sure he could answer. In the hot wash of emotions of anger and sorrow, he blurted out the thing that Arnold would least want to hear in that moment.
“I’m gonna explore every last corner of this world, and become King of the Pirates!”
When the marine battleship first dropped anchor off the coast of Cornmeal Town, Dazo couldn’t help but be in awe. The massive scale of the vessel was unlike anything he had seen before.
