Shelltown! Homebase of the Marine 153rd division and where ax hand Morgan ruled with his iron fist. Was it an iron fist? Or maybe an ax fist? Well, in the end, technicalities matter little. Reynard had been staying on the island for some training after the events of Mirrorball. The defeat of Corone had left him scars but even so, he felt stronger than before. In fact, Ensign Gong had enforced a stronger training regime on the Seaman. At first, Reynard thought the marine was a mad man but soon he began to see improvements. Well not soon. The Marine had a lot of raw power a lot of which wasn't being disciplined and molded. However, under Gong's management, he had made some progress. He had learned a new technique called 'Soru' by kicking the ground at high speeds and with great power he dashes at from one location to another in the blink of an eye. That proved very useful at least to Reynard who was a particularly quick guy.
In the end, it wasn't training time yet. No! Reynard was on patrol around the island. Quite silly come to think of it actually. At least it was silly for Reynard. What pirate would come here in the first place? Seriously? That was suicidal! Shelltown was an island with an active Marine base and constantly being patrolled. Coming here was, in essence, a death sentence. Even so, he guessed that if he wasn't on patrol that would perhaps be an incentive for criminals to show up. The Marines had to make their presence known. Especially in these trying times! Heck, there was even talk of a red-faced cyborg running a muck across the East Blue. A man with an 8 million Beri bounty. Quite scary since Reynard had just barely been able to take down a man with a 7 million Beri bounty and that was with help! In fact, anything above 5 million was scary to Reynard it surpassed most of what was in the East Blue. But then again a bounty wasn't always a good indication of power. So maybe he had nothing to worry about. Besides, there was no way this cyborg chainsaw fellow would ever come to Shelltown. Right?
Reynard let out an audible sigh. He leaned up against a wall for a second to catch his breath. It was 12 pm and the midday sun was getting to him. Even so he still had six more hours before his shift ended. Then he would be replaced by a fellow Seaman and he could train going back to sleep at 11 pm only to wake up at 6 am and repeat his cycle. It was handful being a Marine. But it gave a living. Reynard looked up at the sky as fluffy clouds flew overhead. It paid indeed for his family who needed it. Besides the climb to the top the climb to Vice Admiral was long and that was a part of his dream. To be a hero! To help those who needed help! Joining the marines gave him that chance. That moment to shine. Anything else would he selfish.
"Yosh!"
The Marine exclaimed as he got back to work. Walking down the brick road that made much of the town's walking area. It would be an uneventful day. Or so the Marine expected it to be. Little did he know this would all change. Sooner rather than later. For an unexpected opponent was on the Island. One that to Reynard's eventual suprise was rather unexpected. But that was for later and currently we are still in the now.
