Syph #16 / Jaq #16
"That's heartening to hear." Mugetsu said with a smile on his face. Along with Jaq, now Tally had arrived at the table, and their group continued to grow. Syph for a moment wondered whether Lyn would've been sad that she was missing out. But the merwoman had been adamant about her choice. So perhaps not. "I suppose that means Kitty hasn't been cooking." The cook continued with a teasing smile on his face. The comment was finished off by an audible bonk as the nun's hand heavily slapped the back of his head.
Syph glanced over and smiled as Del and Gyato did their best to cool down the nun. Whom it was true, had not been cooking, they'd known for a while that she was probably the least qualified on the crew. At least of those who tried to cook for them. "You're right. She hasn't, its mostly been Gyato, the others help occasionally." She commented gaining an understanding nod from the cook. "And Tally, you may not have had anything terrible. But you haven't had consistently good food either." She said looking to the fishwoman as she pushed away a cleaned off plate with a smile of satisfaction.
"I do what I can." Gyato said.
"I'm sure you do fine." Mugetsu responded ruffling Gyato's hair.
It was then that Tally spoke up trying to pull the attention of the group as a whole. Syph turned her attention looking towards the fishwoman. She'd cut off Tally earlier due to higher priorities at the time, but now was a good time to take it. While the others didn't all give her their full attention they were all at the least gracious enough to bring their conversations to quiet sides with the occasional chuckle. "Go for it." Syph gestured to Tally to allow her to say whatever she wanted to.
The fishwoman went on to elucidate on her skills. The two at least she thought herself most capable of that were relevant. Syph scratched her chin, before taking glances up and down the line at the other members who were about. In the end it was Max who spoke first "A pair of useful abilities. For my part then, I'll be glad to have you. Though I don't know if Syph will be willing to give up the helm to anyone else." He said an amused grin growing across his face as he glanced at her.
"Mmm, we'll have to see about that." Syph said giving the deckhand an annoying glance. He was far too on point sometimes. But noting that she should probably say something she looked to Tally. "But Max is right those are some great skills you've picked up. I'm sure we'll figure a way to put them to good use." She paused for a moment considering her words for the time. "We'll see about letting you at the helm. Unfortunately Max is right. I'm a bit controlling when it comes to that." The deckhand laughed with Del and Kitty joining after him. Syph shook her head sighing in exasperation at the situation.
Pausing Syph looked back up at Tally. "But nonetheless even if its for a short time. Welcome to the Shoguns, as we are nominally known." Syph said with a smile, there was a small twitch of motion from Mugetsu but he said nothing. She continued beckoning to the fishwoman. "Now come, sit down, eat."
From the side Jaq had watched and listened quietly to the conversation going on. He'd come to a bit of a realization. Or at least he suspected something, about his mood. Listening to the fishwoman speak he'd been surprised by the pair of skills. The coating one in particular, he'd heard of it as a job but never really understood it. But more importantly he'd realized, his skill set was not being quite utilized either. Though he was shipwright, he only did a few minor jobs for the ship. Many of them Max had been doing already with decent results. In reality all he was for them was a fighter, and not even a good one at that.
That thought hurt him, he needed to pull his own. Then just do it. He tilted his head up and then slapped both of his cheeks loudly. Turning the attention to him for the moment as his crewmates glanced at his reddening cheeks. "Jaq, you okay?" Max asked in a low voice, Jaq turned to him.
"Fine."
He responded curtly. Looking to Max who shrugged his shoulders in response to that. "Alright then." The deckhand eyed the boxer again but said nothing more to Jaq's relief. Instead he swirled up another bit of noodles and pulled it toward his mouth. Jaq blinked looking at that for a second.
"Max, where'd you get the noodles." The deckhand paused mid-chew and looked back at the boxer. A light flickered in his eye, he'd thought of something. Without saying anything Max turned about a bit before nodding and pointing in the direction of a stall at the far side of the cafeteria.
"Thanks." Jaq said excitedly standing up from his half-finished meal. He slapped the deckhand hard on the back causing the man to have to forcibly hold his mouth closed with his hands. Jaq didn't notice however as he rushed off.
