Lilin Post #23 / Tally Post #23
Just like that, the Beast's newest interest vanished from sight. It held itself in that place for a moment, unmoving, every sense other than sight focused entirely on tracking that thing - the smoke pouring from its body stopped for a moment, and then burst outward in a thick, choking cloud that obscured the majority of its body and the surrounding area.
Movement within the smoke was quickly followed by massive hands of smoke reaching out, grabbing at whatever had decided to move. More than a few bystanders, who had just been trying to escape the Beast, suddenly found themselves in its clutches, screams suddenly silenced as the force of the grip around their bodies knocked the wind out of them. The void entity lifted itself up high, raising its catch up toward its face to see if it had managed to grab the woman that held its interest.
"You know, you look pretty good at a ship's wheel."
Tally turned toward the voice with a start, nearly ripping the lever out of the wall as she did - only to sigh with relief at the sight of the well-dressed thief. "Perhaps you could try to give a little warning before you sneak up on someone," she replied, and then turned her attention back out the window that overlooked the rest of the ship. With the rate of inflation, the coating mechanic estimated that the vessel would be fully submerged in about a minute; hopefully the other Shoguns would have made it on board by then.
"Surprisingly, you're not the first person to give me that advice," Ophelia grinned. "And, as with all the other times I've heard it, I will say this - I'll take it into consideration." The lock box she'd been carrying around was set down on a desk toward the back of the room, on top of the various maps that were strewn across it, and then the Phantom Thief walked up to Tally's side, peering through the window down onto the deck below. "What's the bubble for?"
"It's a coating of a special type of resin." Tally kept her hand on the lever, ready to switch it back off as soon as the system had done its work. With as much damage as the ship had taken, it probably made sense to underfill it... "The ship will lose buoyancy and sink below the waves, but the resin will keep the water out and air in. It's something used primarily in and around Fishman Island."
Ophelia nodded her head slowly, eyes glued on the strange substance pushing upward as air was pumped into it. "This is my first time seeing it... This world is just full of fascinating things, isn't it?"
Tally chuckled and switched her attention from the coating to the thief looking out the window like a child, enraptured by the show in front of her. It was easy to take things like this for granted - she was used to the mechanics of coating, to the point that the event of a ship's coating being pumped up was just another part of her routine, but it was something special for others.
