Sailing from Kabukimono in the Grand Line all the way out to the West Blue had been one hell of an adventure - she'd gotten the chance to meet all sorts of interesting people and seen all sorts of interesting places, but it had been just enough for her to understand how little of the world she'd really seen. It was already a grand adventure, and one that Tomoe was glad she had embarked on, even if the initial setting off had been difficult.
... Unfortunately, traveling had turned out to be expensive, and now the young woman found herself on a farming island with not a single beri to her name. If she was going to continue on with her adventure, she'd either need money or a ship that needed an extra pair of hands, and in the absence of the latter, working to get the former would at least keep her belly full.
Without an abundance of profitable talents at her disposal, Tomoe had turned to the one she had - fighting. Once again unfortunately, after one instance of trying to sell the strength of her arm, advertising her services as a debt collector or mercenary or whatever anyone might need, the young woman quickly received a slap on the wrist and was informed that those actions were technically illegal; fortunately, she'd been let off with a warning. Since that had been a bust, but she was still in need of money, Tomoe turned to the other talent she had - woodcarving.
So now, here she was, sitting on an empty barrel she'd found in alley near the market square she'd set up in, just behind a table someone had been kind enough to let her use, upon which were a series of wooden masks, little statues of animals, smooth wooden charms, and other cute knick-knacks. She held a small log, cradling it with her left hand and right leg, carving away at it with a knife while the people of Millton wandered the marketplace, occasionally stopping at her table to look over her wares. The sun was shining overhead, nary a cloud marring the beautiful blue expanse; children were playing in the streets, the steady rhythm of the countless windmills in the city churning in the pleasant breeze...
And all Tomoe could think about was the fact that running a legitimate business sucked. Sure, she'd managed to sell a couple of items, and given away a few little baubles to some kids to put a smile on their faces, but if she kept up this pace... Well, she might not be able to afford dinner, let alone be able to save up for a ticket off of the island.
