Pluto - 1
Tens of thousands of voices overlapped in the colosseum flooded with people who sat along ascending rows of seats that encircled the arena. A massive cage trapped the combatants at the center with razor-thin wires that impaled through the earth itself while converging towards a central point at the epicenter of the stage. A fifty-meter diameter base with a twenty-meter height, making it appear as a wide dome.
The platform where the combatants stood appeared to be made of a type of natural sandy-colored rock that was artificially carved to be flat with no visible bumps or crevices. Impressively, the wires that encapsulated the space must have been so thin that the sun beaming at an angle was not enough to cast a notable shadow across the ground.
By convention, it was usually the case that a fight who falls out of bounds to lose a fight, but in this arena, it was virtually impossible to fall out of any bounds for if the average human tried to pass through the wires, they would be sliced into mincemeat. The spectators didn’t come here to be cheated out of their experience by the fighters being rendered out of bounds while still being abled to fight; they wanted to see violence in its purest form with no rules attached. Only when one person remains alive in that cage would the wires dissipate, and the winner be announced.
“Ladies and gentlemen, it is time!” the announcer, who dressed like a Spartan warrior, wearing a golden helmet with a crimson plume and a golden-breasted plate, spoke up through a tiny indigo-shelled Den Den Mushi in his hand that projected his voice throughout the arena. Long, wild hair extended down his back. He stood at a special balcony at the topmost row of the colosseum.
The crowd went silent.
“It is time that I introduce you to our contenders for today. In the center of the cage, we have the mysterious figure who is said to appear only at night. He is spoken about like an urban legend as a demonic monstrosity that had slayed countless of lives. But supposedly, the one standing right there is none other than the rumored Black Wing.”
At the center of the cage, there stood a humanoid figure, cladded in dark-violet, lightweight, steel-plated armory that protected his forearms, shins, outer thighs, torso, shoulders, and neck. Through the gaps between the segmented armor was a dark-cyan undergarment. His head was covered by a low-hanging hood that shadowed a white cat-mask that hid whatever emotions that could be told from his facial expression. With much of his body covered up, he appeared like quite the enigma as not even the announcer knew of his real name.
He bared no weapons as far as the myriad of scrutinizing eyes could tell. No swords. No firearms. And without any baggy sleeves, no hidden weapons. He stood at a moderate height of one-hundred-eighty-three centimeters with an athletic framed body with hints of muscles beneath his clothing, but nothing grotesque or even noteworthy.
But to the trained eye, one could extrapolate something about his posture. It was as if a vertical line could perfectly run down the center of his body. At the very center of this arena, he stood with a shoulder-width stance with his weight distributed evenly on each foot. His arms were relaxed by his side; hands held loosely.
He did not speak. He did not take a single step from his spot.
But, despite his expressionless, soundless, and motionless demeanor, his mind was storming with dread and fear.
What is this!? Why are there are so many people here!? Why are so many people looking at me!? This isn’t right!
As someone who thrived in darkness, Pluto was used to living his life as if he was invisible to others. He disliked crowds, being the center of attention, and cameras. He had always kept a low-profile and stayed out of sight.
Despite it being broad daylight, there was not a single stretch of shadow for him to hide in. The wires were just too darn thin to cast anything on the ground.
If I don’t do anything, maybe everyone will just leave me alone.
Say nothing. Do nothing. Be nothing.
Become a void.
