Hibai Marine Port. While one of the smaller Marine bases in the first half of the Grand Line, its importance as a foothold among the first half of Paradise was not to be overlooked. It was where Marine vessels would come to restock on supplies before setting back out to sea, as well as serving as a training camp of sorts for new Marines in the Grand Line. It made sense, then, to use the port base as the setting off point for the newly-formed 53rd Division.
Captain Claire Vaux had arrived at the island a week prior in order to begin overseeing preparations. She had already been introduced to the foot soldiers - fresh-faced young men and women, most of whom had just finished with their training at this very base. It was a little troubling that so few of them had any real experience, but there was no sense in complaining; testing out the new blood was the entire purpose of the division she had been placed in charge of, and it wasn't as if Claire herself was a truly experienced commanding officer.
Today was to be another big day for the young Captain; not only was it to be the last full day she would spend on this island for the foreseeable future, but it was the day she would be meeting with the two officers who would be joining her.
She finished running her comb through her hair, setting her favored headband in place with the confidence developed from years of performing the same motions, and observed her appearance in the mirror, twisting and tilting her head with slight motions until she gave herself a swift nod of approval. A good first impression was key, after all, and that started with looking presentable. Claire smoothed out the front of her blue jacket as a final measure before turning back toward the rest of the small room she had been given to use during her stay. She had left her freshly cleaned and ironed "Coat of Justice" laying out on her bed as she was getting ready for this meeting, and now, walking out of the room, she picked it up, swinging it over to rest on her shoulders.
The building she had been staying in was not the building they were to meet in, which meant walking out and through the light rain. It was a refreshing change of pace from the three days of sun and heat that characterized Eldoran's tropical "nice weather" - especially for Claire, who had thought she might melt under her multiple layers of clothing those days. As much of a relief from the heat as it was, Claire still hurried through it toward the large, rectangular building that served as the base's training facility.
And so, ten minutes before the meeting meant to begin, Claire found herself standing in the drill yard, a dark blue umbrella keeping the rain off of her head as she awaited Ensigns Anthony Wallace and Magnolia Wilde.
