Hai Hai no Mi
English Name: Ash Ash Fruit
Classification: Logia
Owned By: Raine
Appearance: A round fruit covered in peels, colored a burnt pale red, with a long billowy stem that resembles smoke. Unpeeled, the fruit itself is the same color underneath, but with spots of dark gray upon its skin.
Ability: As a Logia-type fruit, the Hai Hai no Mi grants its user the ability to transform their body into a material, both defensively and offensively - in this case, volcanic ash. As an incredibly dangerous substance, this grants the fruit’s eater a high level of destructive capability. The user is able to shift into ashen form when struck, bursting into still-heated particles before reforming, protecting them from physical attacks. The user is also able to exhume ash from their body and manipulate its flow in order to attack, both as a cloud akin to a smokescreen and in a more tight, compact manner focused around their limbs.
Volcanic ash contains fragments of glass and rock - It is a relatively dense and hard compound, making it possible to damage weaponry that strikes into it. When being manipulated offensively, it is slow but potent, advancing toward its enemies in a grim progression. Should opponents have the capability of flight, they’ll be hampered by its abrasiveness if they attempt to advance through areas where it has spread.
When spread through the air, ash has a wide dispersal rate, allowing it to cover a wide area of attack. Aside from its blunt capabilities, volcanic ash in particular can cause erosion of infrastructure and machinery, both mechanical and electric, from blocking up the gears and insulators. It’s heavy enough to collapse wood and stone if it gathers in a large enough clump. The fruit’s destructive capabilities might not be as flashy as fire or lightning, but it has the potential to wreak havoc on a widespread scale.
Weaknesses: Like all Devil Fruits, the Hai Hai no Mi robs the user of the ability to swim, cursing them to sink like a stone powerlessly when submerged in water. Water is a consistent weakness, in fact, given that when soaked ash sticks together into a muddy substance, making it impossible for the user to scatter their body to avoid damage. The user is also easily battered around by wind currents, especially when spreading ash over a wide area - it’s less dense when not gathered together and far easier to be blown off course.
Attacks infused with Armament Haki will force solidity upon the user’s body, striking them while negating their Devil Fruit powers entirely. In addition, contact with the material known as Seastone will nullify any powers the user’s body has, while also draining them of strength.
Overall, the defensive capabilities of a Logia are not absolute, as they require training and mental focus, leaving the user vulnerable to surprise attacks while they are still inexperienced. More abstractly, the ability to phase through attacks can instil a sense of invincibility in the user, in spite of the stated weaknesses.
